I Support Earth Hour (Part 1)

60 Earth Hour has come and gone. This time, with a BIGGER bang!
Because it involved our very own Leos! :D

Here are some of you guys in action:

“A candle-lit dinner with my family”

It was a fantastic privilege to be part of the world’s first Global Election between earth and global warming. The hour started off with my family eagerly waiting for the clock to tick 8.30pm. All lights went off and dinner was served. While savouring our delicious “nasi lemak”, thoughts and conversations centered on this nation-wide event filled the entire hour – what the act of switching off the lights meant, how bad is the rate of global warming, etc. In addition, our anxiousness led us to check on whether our neighbours participated in this event, we also talked about how important light is, pondered upon how it was like in the olden days with no light or electricity and we even shared some ghost stories. Although anticipated, it was relieving to resume back to our normal lifestyles at 9.30pm sharp. Am I glad I to be part of the vision to target 1 billion votes for earth. Let us wait for the meeting in Copenhagen for the actual results of this event!

Earth Hour is an international event organized by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund), and held on the last Saturday of March each year, which asks households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. This year earth hour was held on the 28th March 2009, which was on a Saturday.

What did I do during Earth Hour? Well, my family and I turned off the lights at 8.30pm. Before that, we prepared all the candles. For the first 10 minutes I stood at the front door, seeing how many people has actually off their lights. In my neighborhood, a lot of lights were off except the house opposite of mine.

After that, my cat came home and my sister and I started playing with it. Th

en, it got tired and fell asleep. My mum was sleeping the whole hour on the sofa in the living room. It wasn’t hot that night because it rained and so we survived. I also played the piano for a while. I couldn’t really see the piano scores, so it wasn’t a pleasant sound. I slept for about 15 minutes and then Earth Hour was over.

I really thought Earth Hour was very short and that it should take longer next time. Well, I hope that you did off your lights that night because you can make a difference!

And I got home late with my family. So we had our earth hour from 9.45-10.50. :D

Started looking at the time. (btw the lights were all switched off. We used flash light from the camera :D)

My dog can seriously eat no matter what is happening. ahha

Finally my dad found the candles! Heee :D

AND THEN! After a long talk.

It was over. Headed off to bathe and sleep :D

That was how my earth hour went! Haha. Hope you/ you guys enjoyed reading my article (:

Its EARTH HOUR!! We cant really see any starts on the sky..cause it’s a cloudy night.. And its so lucky it didn’t rain on this day cause me and my family were having our dinner outside of our house. It was fun having dinner(cup noodles) outside the house..its cool and windy..After having our dinner we lighted our candle and started taking pictures.

Due to the lack of Leo T-shirt I wore the Earth Hour T-shirt.

Next..we went to the streets.

This is what I have done during earth hour..hope you enjoy reading it.. :)

Around the Klang Valley, I myself saw some changes in the brightness of the city in that particular hour as i was shopping with my family. Mid-Valley Megamall, one of Malaysia’s most hype and popular shopping destinations, played their part in switching off all facade lights, neon signs, landscape lights and other non-essential external lights in the city to show its commitment to the global cause. "Mid Valley City has always embraced a brighter ecological future through various environmental initiatives," said Mid Valley City Garden Sdn Bhd's Chief Executive Officer, Antony Barragry in a statement.

Moreover, Sunway Pyramid too had taken this Earth Hour event seriously and came up with many ideas in involving it’s customers and shoppers. The management had informed all their shoppers to bring along a candle and have a ‘chill’ at the outdoor restaurants and cafe’s during the event. They started their countdown at 5 in the afternoon and gave out suggestions to their customers in ‘The 10 things You can do during Earth Hour’. At the Merdeka Square, a cultural event was organized during this event to attract more residents to play their part in the awareness. Among the other recognized places where the activity took place was at Mont’Kiara, UCSI University, Starhill Gallery, Cap Square, Carlsberg Malaysia and also i-City in Shah Alam.

Well to cut things short, i personally think that Earth Hour did splendid in Malaysia and also all countries around the nation. Such an event might have only reached to some and that too lasted for only one hour but think about it in this way ‘a little goes a long way’! This program was proven a total success and has raised total awareness in citizens around the world about the need to save the environment from disaster.
