A Report on Puan Normal’s Farewell Gift project

Ourbeloved teacher, Puan Normal was shifted to another school, and so, the Leoclub had decided to give her a very special gift during her farewell which wason the 20^th of February 2012. All the students wrote notes for ourteacher and those notes were pasted onto the gift. Even our teacher advisorswrote notes for her. All the Leos that wrote notes were given project points.All the letters that were given by the Leos were pasted onto the gift that waswrapped with brown paper. It made the present look even more attractive withall the creative cards that the leos made. We really hope that our teacherlikes the gift.

A Report on Chinese New Year Gifts

Many great ideaswere being suggested but it had exceeded the budget. Therefore, a simple giftwas proposed. It was a red gift bag which had a mandarin orange, a Chinesedecoration together with a stapled note which stated, “It’s a brand New Year!Wishing you endless happiness, fortunes and peace! Gong Xi Fa Cai.” On the 14^thand 15^th of January, 120 of these items were bought in old town. It was pretty reasonable as it was the ChineseNew Year season.

It was packed onthe 18^th of January to make sure the oranges weren’t spoilt due tothe hot and humid weather and was placed into boxes. On Thursday morning, at around7.30am with the help of Leo Karishma, the gifts were distributed to not onlythe teachers but the workers too. The teachers were delighted and were thankfulwhile the workers were elated and appreciated it very much. They were reallytouched by it.

A Report On The Sales For Assunta Spirit Week

On the 19^th of January 2012, the Leo Clubof SMK Assunta had a project which was organized by the school together withseveral other clubs. There were a total of 20 Leos who signed up to help out forthe sale which was placed near our school canteen. The sale was held during theform 3 and the form 4 & 5 recess and the things that were put up for sale werebrownies and some handmade accessories handmade by one of the Leos parents/

Thesale started at the first recess which was the form 3’s recess. The form 3 Leoprobationers walk around the canteen selling the brownies and the accessories.We even sold some of it to the juniors from the afternoon session. As for thesecond recess which was the form 4 & 5 recess, the sale became very goodand we sold off all of our brownies at the end of the recesses.

After the sale, the Leos started topack and clean up the stall so that we could all go back to our respectiveclasses and to continue our lessons. The income for the sales was aroundRM200+. The salewas really impressive and we managed to sell all of the brownies of reallyfast.

A Report on Nose High School Visit 2012

Onthe 18^th of January 2012, A few Leo’s from the Leo Club of Assuntaparticipated in the NOSE High School programme that was carried out in school. Beforethe Japanese students arrived, we were arranged in two rows according to clubfrom Gate C all the way to the canteen. Soon after that, the Japanese studentsand teachers step foot into our school and that was when the students begin toplay the ‘kompang’ to welcome them. We waved our Japanese and Malaysian flagsand greeted them as they walked in.

As soon as we reached the canteen wewalked to our assigned tables and met our Japanese partners. It was a littlehard to communicate with them but it was fun at the same time. Some of uscarried dictionaries around! After breakfast, everyone was called to gatheraround the ‘dataran’ where we watched a wonderful performance by the band andalso ‘dikir barat’. They enjoyed it very much. Then, we took our partners up tothe gallery where we had the opening ceremony. It began with a speech by ourvery own head prefect followed by another speech by a representative from NOSEHigh School. Our own principal then took the opportunity to welcome all theJapanese. The Vice Principal also gave his speech which was translated by thetour guide.

The mood was enlightened as we tookturns to sing our school songs. We sang it loud and proudly. When everyone wasseated down, the performances began. A power point presentation was shown byeach of the schools showing each other the beauty of each of our cultures andall the activities we have in school. When that was over, we continued with theMalay mock wedding. The bride and groom were dressed beautifully and they werefollowed by the playing of the ‘kompang’ as they walked down the isle. The viceprincipal of NOSE High School and our school principal were invited up on stageas the couple sat down on the ‘pelamin’ to bless them. The fashion show was thenext on the agenda. Students walked down the isle wearing traditional clothesand short explanations were projected onto the wall for the Japanese to read. Ithought that it was very educational. The performances then continued with theMalay, Chinese and Indian traditional dance. Everyone enjoyed it very muchespecially the Japanese students. They were in awe after watching the dances.

The Japanese students then took their turn to leave us in awe byshowing us a karate demonstration. After that, the students were asked to getup and stack the chairs at the side of the gallery. The gallery was then separatedinto half. The Japanese students arranged themselves on the right hand side ofthe gallery whereas the Assuntarians gathered on the other side. It was finallytime for the sharing of dances. The Japanese students danced to a song called‘Doikosho, Soran’ and the teachers told us to sing along and so we did! Then wethought our Japanese friends the ‘poco-poco’ dance. When the sharing of danceswere over, half of the students in the gallery played congkak while the otherhalf did henna. The bell was rung after the 20 minute mark and that marked thetime that we had to switch.

After another 20minutes, thestudents got up and we had the sharing of songs. The Assuntarians sang ‘ RasaSayang’ to the students and they sang a song to us as well in Japanese. Theemcees then told everyone that it was time to go down to the canteen to havelunch. At around 1.15pm, the Assuntarians brought their Japanese partners uponto their respective busses. When attendance was taken, we were finally off tothe Taman Jaya LRT station. There, we got onto the LRT to get to Central Market.We took our partners all around and introduce to them many different things.Then we boarded the LRT again to go to KLCC. We were allowed to walk around aswell for awhile. We were given a time to meet at the entrance. When everyonewas gathered at the entrance, we took turns to take a group picture with theTwin towers as our background. Near the entrance, the bus was already waitingfor us. It then took us to the Hotel where we were suppose to have dinner. Itwas around 5.30pm at that time. While waiting for our food to arrive, we tookthe time to bond a little more with our partners and the other Japanesestudents. We took many pictures too. When the food was finally served, we tookturns to take our food. After dinner, there were many performances by both theJapanese and Assunta students. It was a very good day. Although we were allvery sad that it had to come to an end, all of us had a really great time andwe hope that the relationship that the students have made with each other willlast for a very long time.

A Report on General Meeting cum Celebration for Leo International Day

Onthe 13^th of January 2012, The Leo Club of Assunta had our firstgeneral meeting of the year. It was really nice to see all the leo’s again aswell as the new probationers that want to join us this year. We started offwith the leo pledge and continued on with the roll call. The leo’s were veryenthusiastic during the meeting that day. Then our Lion advisor, Lion Ivan, ourteacher advisor’s, Puan Betty and Puan Martita, as well as all the Board ofDirectors of the year 2011/2012 were introduced to all the new members. Afterthat, there was a short introduction by the Leo president on what the Leo Clubis all about.

A few leo’s were then called to thefront to talk about all the past projects that we had over the month ofNovember and December. For example, the Joint Christmas Carolling project, theNovels for Nepal Bazaar, The 3 S (sweep, swept, swap) project and so on. Then,there was an announcement on all the upcoming projects for the month.

A short speech was given by LionIvan. He talked about the Blind Leading the Blind project that is organised bythe Lions Club of Petaling Jaya which is going to be held in the month ofApril. There will be cards that will be passed out to all the Leo’s to collectmoney and raise as much as we can. A short game called ‘Hi, my name is Joe’ wasplayed and al the leo’s enjoyed themselves.

Since we could not celebrate LeoInternational Day last year, we decided to celebrate it during this meetingwith all the Leo members. A cake was baked for the occasion by our teacheradvisor, Puan Betty and the Leo’s used their creativity by decorating the cakewith pictures and wordings. At the same time, all the January babies werecalled upfront too. A birthday song was sung for all of them and Lion Ivan,Puan Betty and all the January babies cut the cake together.

We made sure that each of the leo’shad a slice of cake before the meeting was adjourned. It was a really funmeeting and it was really great to see all the leo’s again after such a longholiday.

A Report on the Leo Leadership Camp

The Leo Club of Petaling Jaya Integrity organized a Leo Leadership Camp in which 10 Assuntarians participated . The aim of this camp was to develop leadership skills, team work and values such as believing and trusting in one another to name a few. This camp was held from the 3rd to 8th of December 2011 (6 days and 5 nights).

3rd December 2011

We gathered at A&W at around 8am and boarded the bus. Before continuing on with the journey, we stopped by at SMK Damansara Jaya to pick up the Leos1 from Damansara Jaya and Taman Sea. Upon arriving at Kem Bina Semangat, Kuala Kubu Bharu, we had the opening ceremony. It was then followed by a briefing and an ice breaking session . We were grouped into our respective team with a team mentor who was there to guide us throughout our stay.

In the afternoon, we had our first activity which was called trust fall and high rope. For the trust fall, participants had to fall on their back and had to be supported by other participants who are their friends and thus learn the value of trust.

The high rope was our next activity where participants had to walk on beams and ropes high above ground level with safety harnesses. 2 hooks were hooked to a safety line while we had to learn to control our fear of heights and stay as calm as possible. In the evening, we created our group names which were Patrick, Fireball and T.M.N.T, our team cheers as well as paint our own team flags to give us the team spirit that we will need throughout the camp.

4th December 2011

After breakfast, we had a short briefing on the safety measures for jungle trekking. Throughout our journey , we gained knowledge on different skills; to build a I day house with nature, identifying the variety of plants which are edible, an insight into the forest flora and to test if a particular plant is poisonous. In the midst of our trekking, we had river crossing. We also enjoyed our time in the waterfall. It was very cooling and rejuvenating after a hot and sticky morning. In the evening, Leo Nicholas Chew conducted a dessert survival activity. The dessert survival quiz really made us squeeze the juice out of our brains, but we still manage to do it.

5th December 2011

We had rappelling where participants have to rappel down from high above ground level while being belayed and hooked to a safety line. The aim was of course to gain confidence and boost one’s self esteem. After having some tidbits to munch on, the ‘plug the hole’ activity was being carried out where participants had to apply their physics knowledge. A barrel with numerous holes was assigned to each group and a piece of rope and newspaper was distributed as well. The holes were to be covered and the barrel to be filled with water from the river. The winner would be the group who could fill the barrel with the most water and of course teamwork was important here. In the afternoon, we had rafting. Firstly, we had to untangle two ropes which were tangled. Upon untangling it, items were then given to us such as barrels, ropes and planks to build the raft. This was the most challenging part, building it wasn’t easy and just imagine that we had to rebuild it again after being advised by Abang Zack. After building it, we rafted to the other end of the river bank to get our team flag. Here not only was teamwork important but using relevant skills was important to win. “United we stand, divided we fall”

We were really exhausted and hungry but we can’t deny that we had a marvelous time. In the evening, we did cobweb. Even though we were tired after rafting, we were indeed excited and ever ready to face the next challenge. The target was to get everyone onto the other side through the web without touching it within the given time. Though we exceeded the time set, we were still proud of ourselves that everyone showed teamwork and supported each other throughout the course.

6th December 2011

We started the morning with exercise and a jog. After that, we had to do 12 feet wall where participants had to support each other to go over the 12 feet wall. Then, we had flying fox which everyone really enjoyed. Later, we had the obstacle course where 16 obstacles had to be overcome . We did face many punishments, but we really did have a great time facing them. At night, we campedby the jungle and had a campfire. We sang songs and played games organized by the committee.

7th December 2011

Day 5, the mine field course was carried out. Participants had to cross a designated route on the ground with only small checkpoints clear from “mines” using planks and a piece of rope as bridges. We then went for kayaking under the scorching sun which burnt our skin. In the afternoon, the certificate and award presentation as well as evaluation and sharing session took place. During the farewell night, we played cards until 6 am the next morning as it was our last day together.

8th December 2011

On the last day, everyone was really sad and gloomy as it was time to leave. We enjoyed ourselves very much and had gained valuable knowledge, a life time experience and exposure. We also bonded really well and hope to meet up again soon. We left the place with heavy hearts realizing that no man is an island.

A report on the CNY Decoration project

On the 10th of January 2012, the Leo Club of Assunta was asked to decoratethe school's lawn way with Chinese New Year decorations. The Leo Club wasprovided with red cloths, lanterns, cherry blossoms and ang pau packets by theschool.

A total of 5 Leomembers stayed back after school to decorate the lawn way. The members tooksome time to analyse the area to get a design. Once we got a design we startedto decorate for we were running out of time. We decided that the red clothwould serve as the main attraction and the lanterns and cherry blossoms wereused as decorations.

We were running out oftime and some members had to leave but the decorations were not done. In theend there were only 2 members left to hang up the lanterns and cherry blossoms.We were finished by 3:30 pm. After we were done, we packed up the rubbish andunused items and put them back in the office.

The Leo members workedreally well together and the project went very smoothly. Eventhough the timelimit was short, we managed to get the project done.

A report on the 3S Project

On the 7^th of January, a joint project called Joint 3S (Sweep, Swept &Swap) with the Leo Club of Penang City, along with Leo Club of Ipoh Unity and the sister clubs supported by Lions Petaling Jaya was organized by Leo Pji. We were said to meet up at SMK Damansara Jaya at 9 in the morning. After the arrival of all the participants, we headed off to Kirtarsh handicapped and disabled children's home.

When we arrived at the place, everybody started greeting and wishing the children and the elders. Firstly, the girls were busy entertaining the kids while the guys were busy cleaning and making the place look brand new. Games were carried out and the kids were very fascinated at the badges, hence the badges were prizes for the games. After many talks, games and cleaning up, it’s finally time for lunch. We headed to a Restaurant called “Salam Satu”. Each of the Leos thank the Lions with gratefulness for treating us lunch.

After 2 hours of lunch, we went back and continue where we left off. Each kid was guided by a Leo to play the fireworks. Happy faces were shown and that really satisfied us. It is finally time for the surprise, which is Chinese new year songs and a very special performance by the Leos from PJI.

After everything is done, the caretaker there thanked us, everyone did a great job, the whole place looked brand new after that. We all left the home happily and we were all very satisfied with what we’ve done.

A Report on the ‘Novels For Nepal Bazaar’

On the 10^th of December 2011, a few leo’s fromthe Leo Club of Assunta, Damansara Jaya, Taman Petaling and Taman Sea cametogether to help out at the Arts for Grabs bazaar that was held at Annexe,Kuala Lumpur. The whole purpose of this bazaar is to raise funds to build alibrary in a school in rural place in Nepal. Secondhand books were sold at the bazaar toraise the funds needed.

All the Leo clubs have had a bookdrive in their ownschools so that the books can be sold.

Ataround 10 am, all the Leo’s gathered at a&w. As soon as everyone arrived,we walked to the LRT station which was just opposite with the many bags andboxes of books that were supposed to be sold at the bazaar.

Webought out tickets and we were off to the Central Market. They were verysurprised with the amount of books that we brought over. As soon as the bookswere sorted according to how much it was going to be sold at, we wrote notes tothe children in Nepal. All these notes will be given to the children duringtheir next visit.

Thebazaar was a great success. And the Leo Clubs will continue to help them raisethe funds that is needed to ensure that a library will be built for thechildren in Nepal.

A Report on Christmas Carolling 2011

On the 12th and 13th of December, Leos from SMK Assunta, SMK Taman Petaling, SMK La Salle and Petaling Jaya Integrity gathered to spread the Christmas cheer to several orphanages and old folks homes around PJ. Practices for carolling were held at Cameron Towers on the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 28th and 30th of November. During that time, Leos practiced tirelessly to perfect their singing and to prepare for the upcoming project. Many even gathered to pack hampers and donations which were to be presented to the homes. Each orphanage received a hamper and some donations while the old folks homes received fruit baskets and donations.

After much planning and preparation, the project day arrived. Leos gathered in the Assunta school canteen for lunch at 11.30am before leaving for their first destination. Grace Villa Homecare was a cosy little home that housed the elderly from multiple backgrounds. Many of them were very happy to see the carollers and some even joined in to sing. The next home the Leos visited was Bellevue Residential Homecare. The Leos once again spread out to face all the residents of the home and filled the place with the Christmas spirit. Next, the Leos decided to take a rest at Lotus PJ State. Finally, they visited Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home. The children were very much excited to see Santa Claus and his bell as he entered the home. Everyone joined in and sang the carols and later, the kids were treated to a round of games and prizes. To end it all off, each kid got to take a picture sitting on Santa Claus’ lap while receiving their very own Famous Amos gift bag.

The following day was very much like the first. It all started with the Leos gathering at school for lunch at 11.30am. Then, the first home they visited at 1.00pm was Phyllis Caring Home. The Leos carolled along with the residents and were very much happy to greet everyone ‘Merry Christmas’ while belting out Feliz Navidad. The next home they visited was Precious Home. Every child was filled with glee as Santa came walking down the road, ringing his bell. Before they knew it, carols had been sung, games had been played, prizes had been given, presents had been presented and pictures had been taken. The Leos who left reluctantly were soon heading for their break at an Indian restaurant in Section 4, which was really near to the next home. It begun to drizzle as the Leos entered the very last home, Trinity Children Centre but that did not dampen their Christmas spirit! The children were overjoyed when Santa had a round of Santa Says and Statue Dance which earned them several prizes. After getting their gifts and taking a few pictures, the children had to say goodbye to the Leos as they boarded their bus to head back to SMK Assunta. The Leos reached the school at 6.00pm and were very tired after two long days but all the hard work and practice paid off after seeing so many happy faces this Christmas season. We hope that next year’s carolling is as much of a success as this year’s one.

ROAR ROAR ROAR!

Selling of muffins during the form 1's registration day

On the 17^th of November 2011, a few Leo’s met up in school at around 7.30a.m. to bake mixed fruit muffins which were going to be sold during the Form 1’s registration day. When everyone arrived, the Leo’s went to the cooking room to start baking. We had a lot of help from our teacher advisor, Puan Betty as well as Lion Malcolm. They helped us measure the ingredients and thought us how to mix them all together properly.

When the batter was ready, we lined the trays with cupcake liners, and the batter was put inside. The trays were put into the 4 ovens that were preheated and it was left inside until the muffins turned golden brown. We took out the trays and left it to cool. After a whole day of baking, we managed to bake a total of 270 muffins and we definitely couldn’t have done it without the help of our teacher advisor and Lion Malcolm.

When the muffins were cool enough, the Leo’s packed them into clear plastics of 3 and the top was staplered. We decided to sell each packet for RM 3. While it was still warm, we went around selling the muffins. The teacher’s were very supportive towards our project. Some of them bought as many as 6 packets! The rest of the packets were kept to be sold the next day during the registration.

On Friday, the 18^th of November 2011, which was also the registration day for the incoming Form 1 students, a few members from the Leo club went around selling the muffins to the parents and students.

It was from 9.00am till 12.00pm. The aim of this project is to raise funds to buy a new projecter for our school. A total of 10 Leos helped out to sell. Parents, students and teachers were generous enough to buy. After successfully selling a total of 270 cupcakes, we packed up and passed the money to our Vice President, Leo Jessie Rose. We were really exhausted at the end of the day, but had loads of fun selling muffins and working together.

A Report on Movie Marathon 2011

On the 19th and 20th of October 2011, along with the 4th and 9th of November 2011, the Form 3 Leos were excited to carry out their first project since the PMR examination. This project was aimed at raising funds for the upcoming Christmas Carolling project which will be in December. On these four dates, Leos worked tirelessly to prepare the AV rooms for the proper cinematic viewing. The Leos worked together to carry chairs and arrange tables within half an hour before students started piling in for the much anticipated movie.

Movies such as Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Beastly, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2, X-Men : First Class, Insidious and Red Riding Hood were shown throughout this project. Each movie was priced at RM1. Students were very happy to spend time with their friends, watching a movie while still contributing to charity.

At the end of each movie, Leos would group together to clean up the AV rooms and rearrange the tables and chairs. Some Leos even sacrificed their time to stay back after school to make sure the AV rooms were in order before leaving. The Leos overcame many problems throughout this project and learned the true meaning of team effort to get the job done.

On the last day, Leos even sold marshmallows and chocolate to raise extra funds to reach our target. This sale was a hit amongst the Form 3s and was sold out before the end of recess. All in all, this project was a huge success and we hope that the incoming Form 3 Leos will get to carry on this tradition with equal success.

A Report on The ‘Light For Hope’ Project

On the 24^th of October, the Leo Club of SMK Assunta paid a visit to the Agathian’s Shelter. It is an orphanage for boys. The Light for Hope project was organized to help the shelter get ready for the upcoming Deepavali celebration. A total of eleven Leos took part in this project.

The Leos were gathered in school by 8.30 and we left for Agathian’s Shelter. At 9, we started off with an ice breaking game. All the children were told to stand in a circle with the Leos and introduce themselves. Leo Azarelle who was holding a rolled up newspaper passed it to one of the boys. Then, she would scream the name of another boy as the boy in the middle would try to hit his leg. It was an interesting game and everyone had fun.

After everyone had their turn, we moved upstairs to start decorating the home. The Leos had prepared block letters reading ‘Happy Deepavali’ and more. All the children gathered together and coloured the letters with crayons and colour pencils that the leos provided. A few of the older children even drew their own illustrations and put it up on the walls.

Once the children were done with the colouring, we asked them to design a ‘koolam’. ‘Koolam’ is an Indian decoration out of coloured rice symbolizing happiness and joy. The older children drew out a huge pattern and then helped the younger ones to decorate it with the coloured rice we had brought. All the Leos were amazed by the creativity of the boys. They had drawn and coloured the ‘koolam’ all by themselves. With the extra rice, a group of five boys made another ‘koolam’.

All in all it was a great day. Everyone had fun and we really bonded with the kids although most of them could only speak in Tamil. We were glad that we took part in the project because we had made the kids very happy.

A Report on the ‘Happy Deepavali Gifts’

On the 19th of October 2011, The Leo Club of SMK Assunta made some Deepavali gifts for the teacher’s of our school in conjunction of the Deepavali celebration. The Leo’s thought of many interesting ideas but we finally came to a conclusion and decided to give the teachers Laddu which was placed in a lovely small golden bag with a small card wishing all the teachers ‘Happy Deepavali’!

The Leo’s went all out to get the materials that were needed to make the gifts. We ordered about 120 pieces of Laddu and bought 120 bags to put the laddu into. The Leo’s managed to get both the the Laddu and the bags for very reasonable prices. After a whole day looking for these items, the Leos went to one of our houses to get the packing started. One of the Leo’s were assigned to print out small cards saying ‘Happy Deepavali!’ on it with the Leo logo on the far right side of it. After it was printed out, the Leo’s cut it out one by one and placed it in each bag.

The Leo’s managed to finish packing the gifts really fast because they worked together and delegated well. The gifts were then counted and placed in a small box so that it would be easier to be carried around and given to the teachers. On the 21st of October 2011, a few Leo’s went around giving the teachers the Deepavali gifts and wished them all ‘Happy Deepavali!’. The teachers were really touched and happy when they received the gifts. They thanked the Leo’s too. Pictures were taken on that day as well.

A Report on the 'World Food Day Programme' at Taylor’s College

Last Sunday, on the 16th of October, the Leo Club of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Assunta were one of the many clubs and societies around PJ that attended Taylor’s College World Food Day program. This event, usually held in the U.S, was the first of its kind in Malaysia. The reason for this program was because hunger and malnutrition is widespread in the world. In order to help,Taylor's Education Group (TEG) pledged to pack and donate 1,000,000 meals through TEG World Food Day, they held a series of Meal Packaging Events at Taylor's University and Taylor's College campuses as well as Sri Garden Schools on 16 October 2011.

Most of the Leos that took part were Form 3’s. Some of them took the bus provided by the school to get to the college while others decided to come on their own. Once we got to Taylor’s College, the Interactors, Leos and a few normal students that also volunteered were ushered into the auditorium. There, we were given a briefing about what we would have to do.

Once the briefing was over, everyone moved to the hall where we would pack the meals. This was where the real fun began! About 12 people were assigned to a single line and there were about 22 lines. At the top of the line, there were huge plastic containers filled with soy protein, rice, dried vegetables and nutrient-filled flavoring. Four people would work together at that station, filling in the small packets with the food. Once they were done, a runner would bring the packets over to the weighing and sealing station.

At the weighing and sealing station, each packet would be measured so that its weight is between 165 to 175 grams. Once it was measured, it would be sealed and another runner would carry the sealed packets over to the counting and boxing station. There, exactly thirty six packets would be boxed and cellophane-taped. Everyone who volunteered worked tirelessly together and we finished packing about 360, 000 packets. We even finished it half an hour early!

Before we left Taylor’s College, we took pictures and bought the World Food Day T-shirt. All in all, it was a great experience! We had a lot of fun working together and hey, it was for a good cause. In the future, we hope more programs like this will be held.

A Report on The Assunta Symphonic Band Installation

On the 23rd of September 2011, The Assunta Symphonic Band invited the Leo club to attend their installation which was held in the school hall. A few of our Leo’s attended this event to give them support. Before entering the hall, the leo’s had to register at the registration table at the entrance of the hall.

The Installation began at around 1.30p.m. when the guests of honour arrived. It started off with a speech by the outgoing president, Bue Lim. Then, certificates were given out to all the outgoing members. The installation was continued by a few very interesting performances by the band members themselves. First, there was a full band ensemble and they played a piece called Mongol 800. This performance was followed by a woodwind ensemble and a brass ensemble performance which played another piece called ‘Baby Elephant Walk’. Then, ‘The Entertainer’ was performed by all the form 4 band members.

After all the performances, the installation of the junior and senior members took place. All the new board members of the year 2011/2012 were then called up to receive their name tags. Miss Boey, the teacher advisor of the Assunta Symphonic Band was called up to give her speech. Her speech was a very touching one and it made the outgoing form 5 band members feel appreciated and happy with what they did for the school and themselves throughout the year. Last but not least, a very special video presentation which was made especially for the outgoing band members was shown.

The guests were then invited to have refreshments which was prepared at the back of the hall. The installation was a success and we hope for the best for the new board members of the Assunta Symphonic Band. The leo’s then went home at around 3.30p.m. after such an enjoyable installation.

A Report on IJN with Raya kids

12 Leos from the Leo club of SMK Assunta, accompanied by their Lion and teacher advisor, Lion Ivan and Puan Betty, were driven to the Institut Jantung Negara. The Leos then met up with the manager in-charge of the children’s ward, Mr. Bala. Mr. Bala then took the Leos to the 5th floor, where they waited for the children in the lobby. The leos were greeted after a while by a group of 5 children ranging from the age of 1 year to 13 years. The eventful day kicked off with the children loosening up with the children. The leos then helped the children with the drawing of the national flag. After the children had completed their drawings, the leos took out a few books and helped them with the reading part.

Two of the kids insisted on completing their drawings eventhough the other younger children were reading books. Once the children had toned down, they arranged themselves in a circle with the help of the leos. The leos and the kids then played three games which they all enjoyed, including ‘Broken telephone.’ The final event with the kids on this eventful day, was the card-making session, in which the children made ‘Hari Raya’ cards. While the children were engrossed in their card making, Leo Jessie took the opportunity to hand out ‘ang pow’ packets to the 5 children. After the kids received their ‘ang pows’, A few leos made their way into the wards, where they gave all the children the ‘duit raya.’

Before saying goodbye to the children, Leo Mei Kuan distributed sweets from a basket to all the children present. Mr. Bala then treated the leos to lunch at his office. Once the leos had donated 4 bags of books to Mr. Bala generously donated by a few of them, they bid their farewells and made their way to the carpark. On the ground floor of the hospital, Leo Jessie managed to hand out the remainder of the ‘ang pow’ packets to most of the children she came across. Leo Mei Kuan also managed to clean out the basket of sweets before the leos left. Photos were taken before the end of the day.

A Report on Riang-ria Project at Precious Home

The Leo club of SMK Assunta went for a visit to the precious home at Petaling Jaya on 7th September 2011, Wednesday. There were a total of 6 leos whom attended the project. Not forgetting lion advisor Lion Ivan and guest Lion Malcom. We arrived at around 2:30pm at precious home and we were welcomed with a sweet warming smile by the kids there. After we settled everything down. We than start off the project with ice breaking by the introducing each other.

Then we played a game using a blanket. The leos and kids were divided into 2 groups which was group A and B. The game goes this way, which is each group have to say out the name of the opposite group representative after the blanket was released.

We also had a dancing game arranged for them. Continued by a game of twister and a game of UNO cards. At around 4pm, the kids had their tea-time. We gave them each a plate of biscuit, chocolate donuts biscuits, kuih lapis, a box of milo and puding.

Lastly, we took a few photos with the kids and gave them all each party pack. We head back to school at around 4:30pm. Ending the project by saying our goodbyes to the kids. The leos were all glad that we had a oppoturnity to attend the project. It was fun and so last but not least, we thank Lion Malcom, Pn. Betty, Desiree’s mother for driving us there and Lion Ivan for attending the project with us.

A Report on the Bookmark for the Form 3’s and 5’s

On the 15^th of August , the Leo Club of Smk Assunta had a project which was organized by the Form 4 Leo’s after school. All the Board members which totals to 12 members took part in this project. The purpose of this project was to create a small paper notes creatively placed inside pens and bookmarks wishing the Form 3 and 5 Leos sitting for the PMR and SPM Examinations good luck.

The Leos that were involved gathered at 5 Science 2 at 1.30pm. They started off by cutting the paper into pieces and fitting it into the pens. Then, the bookmarks were laminated and cut according to its shape. Once done, the pens were hooked onto the bookmarks.

On the 25^th of August, the bookmarks were given out along with the pen to the Form 3’s and 5’s. The Leos showed their gratitude to the other Leos who so caringly made these bookmarks.

A Report on the Formation of the Leo Club of Methodist College KL

On the 13th of August 2011, a few leos from Assunta Secondary School attended the formation of the Leo Club of Metro Methodist College KL (O). The event was held in the colleges’ auditorium.

The leos took the LRT together to get to the college. When we arrived at about 10.30 a.m., there were a few leos from the college who were waiting at the LRT station. We were then ushered by them to their college. When we reached the auditorium, we found a place to sit and soon after all the other leos from the other clubs arrived, they began the installation. The event began with the arrival of the Lions and one of the Lions that were present was Lion Nelson. Then, they had a short introduction about their newly formed club and followed by the roll calls.

Without wasting any more time, the incoming Leo’s were called up on stage to be inducted. The induction of the new members was done by Leo Kok Sheng. The Leos were given a vest and a nametag. Then, a slide show presentation was shown to introduce the incoming board of directors. It was then their turn to come on stage. Lion Nelson did the honours of inducting the board of directors. After the induction, the Leo President of the Leo Club of Methodist College Kuala Lumpur was invited on stage to give her first speech.

Next were the performances. It started off with a lovely singing performance by one of the Leo’s accompanied by someone playing the guitar and violin. The next performance was a very interesting and entertaining dance performance which was done by a few other Leo’s.

At around 12.30p.m, the installation was adjourned and the Leo’s were led to the canteen for some refreshments. The installation was a very successful one.

A Report on 'What I Can Do For Malaysia' project

On the 24th of August 2011, a few Leos were assigned to take out a white board which was then places at the lawnway of SMK Assunta. Blue paper was used for covering the whiteboard and the words ‘What I Can Do For Malaysia’ was stuck on it together with the Leo emblem on the top left hand corner. The main purpose of this project is to hear what we teenagers can do for Malaysia. It doesn’t have to be something big but something that each and everyone one of us can do even if it’s something small. Their thoughts were written on post-its which was then stuck on the board for everyone to read.

The project began on the 25th of August 2011, Some post-its and a pen was left at the board so that anyone that passes by can write whatever they want and post it up on the board. In the mean time, there were also a few other Leos that went around asking students and teachers from the morning and afternoon session to write something. All the post-its that were collected by the end of the day were stuck on the board. This project was continued the next day which was the 26th of August 2011. The board was getting fuller and fuller. Right after recess, the post-its were taken off the board and the white board was kept at its proper place. The post –its were counted and a total number of 200 was collected.

A lecturer from One Academy College needed yellow post-its for his project to make a Malaysian flag out of coloured post-its with what we Malaysian’s can do for Malaysia on them. So, the Leo Club of Assunta gave the college all the post-its that we had collected to make the project that the lecturer was doing a successful one.

A Report on brownies selling

On the 25th of August 2011, the LEO club of SMK Assunta organised a brownies selling project with the sole purpose of raising funds for the club.

We stayed back in school and started selling brownies at 2.45 p.m. in the school canteen. We promoted the brownies to the afternoon session students as well as teachers during the afternoon session recess. We even went table by table to promote the brownies to the students.

Four LEOs were involved in the brownies selling project. We sold 48 brownies and made an income of RM 96. All the brownies were sold out by the end of the first afternoon recess. The sale was really impressive and we managed to sell all of the brownies of really fast.

We were really happy because we managed to sell all the brownies within half an hour and we also got really good feedback about the brownies too. Not only that, we also learned how to cooperate with each other when carrying out a certain project.

A Report on Hari Raya gifts for teachers

On the 24th of August, a few Leos put in their hardwork in preparing Hari Raya gifts for the teachers of SMK Assunta.

Firstly, Leo Desiree baked 360 beautiful little tiny cupcakes with icing on them. After that. Leo Charis Lee wrapped them uniquely with pieces of crepe paper. We were given separate jobs to do, some were cutting the crepe paper, some were wrapping the three cupcakes together, some were wrapping the cupcakes with the crepe paper and some were tying it with green or blue and black ribbon. With all the hard work and teamwork, we were all done at 4pm.

The next two days, Leo Monica, Leo Leong Kah Mun, Leo Charis Lee and Leo Crystal Yap went to give the wrapped up cupcakes to teachers in the morning. We arranged them neatly on trays and distributed them to the teachers while wishing them with Raya greetings. Many teachers looked proud and happy and thanked us with full of gratefulness. After 5 days of hard work, the project was complete.

A Report on 11th Selangor Leo Club Joint Installation

On the 21st of August 2011, the Leo Club of Assunta attended the 11th Selangor Leo Club Joint Installation. This was a combined installation of 9 Leo Clubs which are the Leo Clubs of SMK USJ 8, ACG Benevolent, SMK Subang Utama, SMK La Salle PJ, SMK Seafield, SMK USJ 4, SMK Section 4, SM Sri KL, and Taylor’s College. The Installation started later than expected but it finally started at around 2.00p.m. A representative from one of the Leo clubs were called on stage to call the meeting to order. Then, the flag salutation was recited followed by the leo pledge.

Next, were the roll calls. All the leo clubs that were present on that day were called one by one to say their roll calls. They said it with full enthusiasm. It then continued with a welcoming speech by the Organizing chairperson, Leo Natasha. After that, the organizing committee was called up on stage. They were the ones that made this whole installation happen and the crowd gave them a big round of applause. Then, a speech was given by Lion Nelson Wong, the Regional Committee Chairperson.

Before beginning the installation, a very entertaining performance was done by a few very talented leos. After that performance, the installation of the new Leo members finally began. The Leos were lined up infront of the Lions according to their schools. The Leos recited their pledge and they were finally leo members. Next, a speech was given by a representative of an Immediate Past President.

Without wasting any more time, the installation of the new Board of Directors for the fiscal year 2011/2012 took place. The Leos were lined up on stage to be initiated by one of the Lions. After being initiated, all the presidents of each respective clubs were given a gable. Then, the immediate past presidents were asked to come on stage for the gift exchange. After that, a newly installed President representative from the Leo Club of Sri KL gave her acceptance speech. Souvenirs were then given to all the Lions that attended their installation on that day. The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were provided at the back of the hall.

When everyone had more than enough to eat, the event continued with a few more performances. It ended with the presentation of souvenirs to all the Leo Clubs that came to support their event on that day. We were glad that everything went well and we wish all the best to the new Board of Directors of all the Leo Clubs into making their fiscal year a very successful one.

A Report on the 'Paws and Claws' Project

On 13th of August 2011, the Leo Club of SMK Assunta organised a project called "PAWS AND CLAWS" where the Leo’s volunteered to help at SPCA. It was from 9.00am to 11.00am.There were about 11 Leo’s that attended this project. SPCA was located at Ampang Jaya so the journey took quite long.

As soon as we reached SPCA, we placed all the things that our club donated in the office. We donated essentials worth RM250 for the shelter such as dog food, cat food, dog shampoo, flee shampoo, and lots more. The Leos donated essentials too such cages, newspaper, towels, and dog and cat food.

There were more than 300 dogs and 20 cats at the shelter. Most of the dogs and cats were very friendly us but the rest of them were shy and scared so they remained in their cages. When we reached the shelter, the person in charge separated us into groups and told us what we had to do. We were told to clean the dogs and cats cages by removing all the soiled newspapers and replacing them with fresh, clean newspapers. All the water bowls had to be taken out too, to be scrubbed clean and refilled with fresh, clean water. We also had to wash the floors of certain compartments.

After all the cleaning was done, the Leo’s went to the kitchen to help prepare the food for the cats and dogs. The fish had to be deboned and the flesh of the fish was put into separate bowls. It took quite a long time because there was a lot of fish on the counter but the Leos really enjoyed themselves doing it. A few others helped to peel chicken for the dogs.

At around 10.30 a.m. , all that had to be done for the day was completed. So we spent the rest of our time playing with all the dogs and cats. They allowed us to take out the puppies from their cages as well. When it was 11.00 a.m., it was time to go. The Leos were really upset but they were happy that they were able to volunteer for the day and spend time with the animals.

Just before we left, we took a group picture. We reached school safely at around 11.30 a.m. and the Leos went home. We really enjoyed ourselves today and we hope that all the animals at the shelter will get a good home and that there will be no more animal abuse in the world.

A Report on the Leo Club of Taman Petaling's Installation

On the 12^th of August 2011, 10 leos from the Leo Club of Assunta, attended the installation of the Leo Club of Taman Petaling. The theme that they have chosen this year was the 5 wonders of Nature which had a very meaningful and powerful meaning behind it. The event was held in the SMK (P) Taman Petaling hall. At around 2.00p.m., all the leos from various schools reached and were gathered in the hall.

To start things off, the Nation anthem was sung followed by the leo pledge which was led by one of the leos of Taman Petaling. Then, the event continued with the roll call. After that, speeches were made beginning with the organizing chairperson, Leo Cynthia Chuah followed by another speech by the head mistress and their Lion advisor, Lion Shangkar. Next, was the induction of the new leo members. Lion Ivan was asked to come on stage to induct the new members. After that, was the induction of the new Board of Directors for the fiscal year 2011/2012 which was led by Lion Shangkar. The new president, Leo Casheen was then invited on stage to make her first speech as the new President of the Leo club of Taman Petaling.

A few games were played. It started off with a name game. The Leos were asked to stack up the chairs at the 2 sides of the hall and make a big circle. The game went on for quite some time but the Leos really had fun playing it. After that, the performances began. There was a interesting dance performance by 2 very talented leos followed by 2 guest performers who sang a mash up and played the guitar. Next, was another performance by the new BOD for the fiscal year 2011/2012 and last but not least was a group singing performance by all the Leos of Taman Petaling.

At around 5.30p.m., the meeting was adjourned and the Leos were invited to the canteen for refreshments.

A Report on the Interact Club of Assunta's Installation

On the 6^th of August 2011, the Interact Club of SMK Assunta held their annual installation for the incoming members and board of directors for the fiscal year 2011/2012. The event took place at Sister Enda’s Hall from 9.oo am to 11.oo am. The Leo Club of SMK Assunta was invited to witness this auspicious event.

The event was kicked off with the singing of the Negaraku and the Interact Song. After that, there was a speech by Rotarian Jack Lim and the organizing chairperson, Interactor Natalie Tan. There was a short opening act done by the Form 3 incoming Interactors. It was about a girl who wasn’t good in socializing, but after she joined the Interact Club, she had many friends.

Before the Installation of the incoming Interactors, there was a slide show presentation on the various events that took place during the fiscal year of 2010/2011. Finally, it was the time everyone was waiting for! The installation of the new Interactors. The Interactors received 3 badges each. Then, it was the graduation of the Form 5’s. They all received certificates for their undying support and contribution to the club and the outgoing president. Interactor Lakshmi then gave her speech. There was a video presentation by the Form 5’s which was about their journey in the Interact Club.

After that, there was a dance performance. The dance was a mixture of hip-hop and Indian culture. Then, it was the passing over of posts. The outgoing and incoming board of directors for various posts, walked up to the stage hand in hand and exchanged badges and hugs. The incoming president, Interactor Dana Low gave her speech and assured everyone that she would bring the club to greater heights. At last, there was a presentation by the new board of directors and the whole Interact Club consisting of old and new members sang a song by Jordin Sparks entitled This Is My Now.

To end that day’s event, there were refreshments provided in the school canteen. After that, everybody went back home.

A Report on the PJI Installation

On the 30th of July, 5 leos from Assunta Secondary School attended the annual installation of the Leo Club of Petaling Jaya Intergrity. The event was held in Sjk© Yuk Chai. At around 1.30pm, the leos reached the venue and were ready to enter the auditorium .

Firstly,we said our pledge dictated by Leo Andrew Yeong and which was followed by the roll call . After that, the Lions delivered their speeches. Here comes the part that everyone was waiting for , the giving of name tags to the incoming and certificates to the outgoing board. Next on, was a singing performance by a Leo, followed by a performance by the PJI leos with a dance group entitled CT5, bringing the meaning ‘cutified’. Before they had their performance, a slide show presentation was shown.

After the singing and dancing performances, another dance performance was performed by the incoming PJI. All the performances were really great. At around 4.30p.m, the event adjourned and we had our refreshments in the canteen and then the others went home.

A Report on Sewo's Installation

On the 29th of July 2011 from 1.30 to 3.30, a small group of people including 10 Leos congregated to witness the Installation of the new board of directors, 2011/2012 of the Sister Enda Welfare Organization, SEWO for short. The event, being held at the Art Gallery of SMK Assunta, commenced with the official emcees inviting a number of special guests to say a word or two.

Some of them included the outgoing president for the year 2010/2011, the teacher advisor who mentioned in the speech her pride on the success achieved by the SEWO organization, our very own principal-Mdm Rita Shantini and the founder of the SEWO Organization. The founder especially touched on the origin of the organization, the renowned people who once contributed to it and finally her future aspirations for the success of the club.

The interesting speeches were closely followed by the handing out of mementos to the outgoing board of directors who worked especially hard for the wellbeing of the club. The show then went on with a few exciting performances by the enthusiastic members of this society. A few of them included a serenading singing performance by two board members, followed by an enthralling spectacle of three Indian cultural dancers showing off their best moves. The event was continued by a solid speech from the incoming president who spoke of her responsibilities and targets that she had set for the club to achieve.

Following this was the handing out of more mementos to guests who took the effort to make themselves present at this important event and to show their undying support to the members. Sadly, all good things must come to an end and so did the SEWO Installation for the year 2011/2012. However, the event came to a good end with the audience being treated to a good meal, fully sponsored by the SEWO club.

A Report on Assunta’s 40-th Leo Installation

On the 22nd of July, the Leo Club of Assunta had their 40th annual installation. Lion Ivan Ho, SMK Assunta’s club advisor, Lion Ang Toon Aun and Lion Christopher were among the revered guests present at this auspicious event. At 1.30 p.m, the ushererettes were at Gate B and Gate C ready to welcome the guests from other schools and the Lions who were coming. By 2.30 p.m, everyone was in the hall and the event began.

The ceremony started with the roll call from each school. The Leo Club of La Salle, Leo Club of Damansara Jaya and Leo Club of Wesley Methodist were a few schools who sounded their roll calls. Some schools had only one representative but still they said their cheer with a lot of spirit. Once the roll calls were over, the outgoing president of SMKA’s Leo Club, Grace Keow, was invited onstage to hit the bell signifying the start of the ceremony. Lian Ivan Ho and Lion Ang Toon Aun were then invited on stage to give their respective speeches. Then, the outgoing president of Assunta, Leo Grace Keow was invited onstage to give her speech.

After that, the emcees announced that the Form 5 Leos were going to be uninstalled. They received certificates for faithfully serving the Leo Club. Next came the moment everyone was waiting for! The installation of the new Leos! All the new members had to go up on stage in twos, light a candle and then receive their badges from Lion Ivan and our teacher advisor. Once all the new members had received their candles, together, they said a pledge to serve the Leo Club unconditionally.

Then came the time to introduce the new Board of 2011/2012. They did the traditional candle blowing ceremony and once they had announced the new board members all the way up to the new president then read a pledge. Now that the serious part of the installation was over, everyone could relax and watch the entertaining performances by the members of Assunta’s Leo Club. The performances were kicked off with Leo Karen and Leo Azarelle’s duet of Little House. The crowd cheered wildly once they were done. After that was a performance by two other Leos, Leo Hui Kuan and Leo Sher Ni. They sang a ‘Whole New World’ from a Disney classic, Aladdin.

The last performance was by the new board members of SMKA’s Leo Club. They danced to a mixture of songs and got many cheers and applauses from the crowd. Lastly was a surprise video for the outgoing board members. The video was especially to thank outgoing president Grace Keow for all her contributions to the club. She was so touched that she even began to cry.

All in all, it was a great day. Everyone had fun and the new members were glad to have been installed.

A Report on the Sun-Block Project

On the 4th to the 14th of July 2011, the leos of the Leo Club of Assunta sold coloured framed sunglasses in conjunction with our school’s Sports Day. The colours that were being sold to the students were according to our house colours which are red, yellow, blue and green. Each pair was sold for RM10.

Each leo was given 2 of each colour to sell to the students. Many students and teachers were interested in buying the sunglasses. A table was set up in the cafe during the Form 3’s, 4’s and 5’s recess to sell the sunglasses. There were some days as well where the leos took turns to stay back to sell the sunglasses in the cafe during the Form 1’s and 2’s recess.

The first batch of sunglasses were sold off within the first week. So, more sunglasses were ordered. There were many parents from the PIBG and the Alumni that were also interested in buying a pair according to their house colours when they were in school for the march around the field during Sports Day.

The remaining sunglasses were sold off during Sports Day which was on the 14th of July 2011. We were so glad that we were able to sell all 446 pairs of sunglasses with the help of all the leo members. It didn’t turn out to be a very sunny day during our sports day this year but the students, teachers and parents still brought along their sunglasses to show their support for their houses.

A Report on SMK LSPJ And USJ 4 Joint Fellowship Day

On the 23rd of July 2011, The Leo club of Assunta attended SMK LSPJ and USJ 4’s Joint Fellowship Day which was held in Summit Auditorium, Subang Jaya. There were several other Leo clubs and Interact clubs, that came together too to celebrate that wonderful event. The theme for their Fellowship was Panda, Black, White & Asian. The reason they chose this theme is to stop racism and so that everybody will be able to live in peace regardless of our religion.

First, we waited for the arrival of the VIPS. After that, the Organizing Chairperson, Leo Tan Jen Shen, was called to recite the leo pledge. He did it with full enthusiasm. The programme continued with the roll call of all the schools that attended the event. Then, it was finally time for the performances. There were several performances on that day. It started with a dance performance by a group called Rising Sun. Followed by, a beautiful ballet dance by Charmaine from Sri KL and a few songs which were sang by Matthew from Sultan Abdul Samad.

After the opening act, refreshments were provided. There were many more performances after that. It continued with a performance by the LaSalle Boy Band called Space Hawk and next was an amazing hip hop dance by the Tridalic. After that, a Korean song was sang continue by a dance group called ‘Last Minute’ by Leo Darius, Leo Charmaine and Leo Frank.

Next was the introduction of all the board of directors of both schools starting with the Leo Club of SMK LaSalle PJ followed by the Leo Club of USJ 4. The final performance of the day was from Zamoera. Just before ending the event, the crowd was invited for the footloose session. We had a lot of fun today and we hope that the Leo Club of SMK LaSalle and the Leo Club of USJ 4 were able to send out their message about racism and that it will make a difference in the world.

A Report on Wesley Methodist School’s 10th Leo Installation

On the 20th of July 2011, the Leo Club of Assunta Secondary School and Leos from many other schools participated in Wesley Methodist School’s 10th Leo Installation. It involved 6 members of the club from form 3 and 4. The members gathered at Gate C at 2.20pm and walked to the LRT Station at Taman Jaya. The leos met up with leo members from other schools and made friends. The leos reached Wesley Methodist School at around 4pm.

The event began with the singing of the National Anthem, Leo Pledge followed by the Roll Call. Then, a brief description about Leo Club was given by one of the loes from Wesley Methodist School. Next was the speech by the guest of honour and outgoing president. Later, was the presentation of certificates to the outgoing leo members as well as the induction of incoming leo members. A decent speech was given by the incoming president, Leo Kong Shin Wei.

The event continued with a few performances by the leo members of Wesley Methodist School. It was very entertaining. Finally, souvenirs were presented to the Lions and guest of honour. The leos were then led to the canteen for refreshments. Before we left the school, we were all given a badge as a door gift.

A Report on SMK Damansara Jaya’s 21st Installation cum 20th Anniversary

On the 16th of July 2011, The Leo club of Assunta attended SMK Damansara Jaya’s 21st Installation cum 20th Anniversary which was held in their school hall. There were several other Leo clubs and Interact clubs too that came together to celebrate this joyous event. To begin the event, Ashley Tan the outgoing president, was called on stage to call the meeting to order.

Then, the National anthem was sung followed by the flag salutation. One of the Leo’s from SMK Damansara Jaya then recited the leo pledge with full enthusiasm. The programme continued with the speeches. First, a speech was given by Lion Ang Toon Aun, the President of the Lions Club of Petaling Jaya. A speech was also given by the District Chairperson, Lion William Lim, and SMK Damansara Jaya’s lion advisor, Lion Christopher Yee.

After that, it was finally time for the induction of the new members of the club. They were called one by one on stage to receive their name tags. A pledge had to be recited by all the new members and they were finally official members of the club. Next was the induction of the Board of Directors for the fiscal year 2011/2012. After being inducted, the members of the floor were invited to congratulate them. Leo Joy Chua, the new president, then had to give her acceptance speech.

Membership certificates were given to all the outgoing members of the Leo club of SMK Damansara Jaya and appreciation certificates were given to all the outgoing Board of Directors. After that, souvenirs were given to all the clubs and lions that attended their event. Next was the lucky draw! Bags and other interesting things were given out as gifts to the lucky winners. What happened behind the scenes or rather before the challenge was shown through a power point presentation. The mood was enlightened with a lot of interesting performances. To end that day’s event, Leo Joy Chua was called on stage to adjourn the meeting.

A Report on the arranging of chairs for Open Day

On the 6th of July 2011, the members of the Leo Club of SMK Assunta were in charge of the hall arrangements. The members gathered in the Sister Enda Hall at around 7:30 a.m. right after the morning assembly. After they were instructed on the positions of the tables and chairs, starting with the Form 4 and 5 classes on the left side of the hall, the Form 3 classes on the right side and the subject teachers in front of the stage.

The members were assigned different duties. Some were to carry down chairs from the store room, take out the tables from the basement and the rest were assigned to arrange the chairs and tables. At the beginning, the members were working at a fast pace, chairs and tables were taken down at a very uncontrollable pace needing extra members to assist.

But the feeling of exhaustion came and everything started to move slowly. At about the 120th chair, the members that were arranging had to stop and help bring down more chairs. In the end, after getting energized again, work got done faster and all that was left was the arranging.

After the arranging, table cloths were put on each table and 4 chairs were put at each table followed by 3 rows of 6 chairs in the front of each station for the parents to sit while waiting for their turn. A teacher came to check on the arrangements and corrected a few mistakes. The arrangements were done and the members were told to return to class as the lessons were on. The time was 8.30 a.m.

While carrying out this activity, members bonded with each other through working together, having the true spirit of teamwork. Everyone worked well together, communicated well and in the end got everything done. Even though everyone was tired with sweat and dusty fingers, they were really happy to help out.

A Report on the cleaning up of behind Mutiara Block

On the 8th of July, which was on a Friday, the Leo club of Assunta had a project which was organised by the school after school hours. About 15 leos took part in this project. The leos were assigned to clean up the area behind Mutiara Block.

Those leos who were involved, gathered at the canteen at 12.35pm. Then, the leos a slice of chocolate cake each, specially made by lion Malcolm and Puan Betty before heading to the Mutiara Block to start the project.

It started at around 1 o'clock. The leos went around mutiara basement including the back of the building, picking up any rubbish lying on the floor. From pieces of paper to sweet wrappers. By 2 o'clock, when the area was already cleaned, the leos got ready to go home.
