Report on Helping Hands At Adoption Drive Project

On the 19^th of January, Leos from SMK Assunta volunteered to help out at the program, Love Is All Around, which was held at the Central Park. It was a program to help collect donations and sell products such as cups, key chains, magnets and such for charity. All proceeds would go to an animal shelter, Second Chance, which was facing insufficient funds as all animal shelters do. It was also a program to teach the public about solutions to controlling the amount of strays on the streets. Many strays were brought to the program that day for adoption. Not only that, there were also a free grooming services provided for cats and dogs. In addition to that, there was also a dog show a few Malaysian Police put up to show one of the many ways a dog contributes to finding criminal evidence and so forth.

       At 9am, the Leos were briefed about the program and how they could help out. Since the Leos were all animal lovers, they were very excited about the program and wanted to help out as much as they could. Since we had quite a handful of Leos that day, three of them volunteered to go and help out at the SuperMum Bakery which was also held on that very same day. After the Leos were given flyers to be handed out, they went along to spread the word about the animal adoption and fund raising program. Some of them went around the park to spread the word to the people who were mostly walking their pets at the park while the others went to 1 Utama, a shopping mall nearby, to inform the people about the program nearby.

      After handing out the flyers, the Leos also volunteered to help sell the product sold that day such as wristbands, car stickers and also to collect donations. It was quite tiring to walk around but they had a lot of fun. The Leos did not find it boring as the various types of cats and dogs around them just made it a fun and an exciting experience. It also gave them a message that the strays deserve good owners just as every other animal does. At the end of the day, the Leos had a great day and it sure opened their eyes that the increasing amount of strays should not be lightly taken and that we, as humans, should take the responsibility and do our part to help reduce the uncontrolled birth of unwanted litters.

Report on Christmas and New Years Gift Project

On the 2^nd of January 2013, the first day of school, the Leo Club of SMK Assunta gave the teachers and school staff a Christmas and New Years gift. It was a Christmas candy cane with a little green bow on top. With the help of a few Leo members, it was distributed in no time.

We hoped to brightened everyone’s first day blues with this little gesture. A total of three Leos participated in this project, preparing and distributing everything.

Visit to Second Chance Animal Shelter

Time: 11.00 a.m-1.00 p.m 

Date: Thursday (24/01/2012)**public holiday


Place: 31/2 Mile Old Klang Road 

Attire: Dark/old t-shirt, shorts/three quarter/bermuda, slippers (going to be wet and messy)
          Meet up at Gate C at 10.00 a.m
   If you have any donations, bring them along as well (dog/puppy food, old newspapers, old towels, anything worth donating to the shelter)
*bring your your permission slips
*bring your own water

If the permission slip says that the end time of the project is 3.00 p.m, it's wrong.
