Chinese New Year Is Here!

On the 28th of January 2016, 6 Leos participated in a project called "Chinese New Year Is Here!" in conjunction with “School Service Month”. The aim was to spread the cheer of the upcoming festival of Chinese New Year by decorating the doors of every classroom with decorations.

We had gone class by class to stick the decorations on the front doors of each classroom in the three blocks, and had hung decorations on the door knobs of several classes. Although several classrooms were occupied by the students of the afternoon session, we had managed to complete our task quickly without disrupting the ongoing lesson. Overall, the project was successful and the students were delighted with the new addition to their classrooms. ROAR!

Dust Busters

On the 18th of January 2016, the Leo Club of SMK Assunta held a project “Dust Busters” in conjunction with the initiative of “School Service Month” in the month of January. The aim of this project was to provide new dusters for the classes in our school. We noticed that many classrooms lacked proper and working dusters for their whiteboards and many of them used tissue papers as substitutes, and that was what inspired the project.

After the school bell rang, 5 Leos set out to distribute the dusters to the respective classes. The classrooms were vacant, providing us with an easy access to the classes. We distributed about 30 dusters, one for each class.
Although it was a very small project with no public declaration or acknowledgement, we had the satisfaction of knowing that we had helped our school. This is what makes being a Leo special, doing something without expecting anything in return. Making a difference, no matter how small, is our priority. ROAR!

Muchas Gracias

On the 14th of January 2016, the Leo Club of SMK Assunta had organised a project called “Muchas Gracias” in conjunction with the “School Service Month”, an initiative to serve the school, our second home. 6 Leos were involved in this project aimed to show our sincere appreciation to our dedicated workers in the school such as the gardeners, cleaners, canteen workers, and security guards by giving them sweets. The project’s name is a Spanish phrase which translates to “many thanks”.
We had remained in school after the final bell to give the sweets to the workers. The workers were delighted to receive the simple gift and thanked us heartily. We were happy to see how a simple act of kindness could make someone’s day and at the same time, show the person that they are appreciated. These unsung heroes are doing so much for our school but we, the students, have never actually taken the time to thank them for it.
Overall, the project was a success. Although it was a simple gift, the smile on their faces lit up our hearts. Truly, they are the school’s superheroes in disguise. Without them, our school would be filthy, unguarded, and with no food prepared for us during recess and after each school session ends. Although we do not communicate with them as much as with a teacher, a simple act of thanking them when they serve our food or even smiling at them whenever we see them would suffice. Together, let’s appreciate our workers every day of our school lives.

Bake My Heart Out

On the 11th of January 2016, the Leo Club of SMK Assunta had organised a fundraising project called “Bake My Heart Out”. 4 Leos had gathered together on the previous day to bake chocolate chip cookies. The cookies were then sold during recess. Overall, the project was a successful one and the students enjoyed our cookies. The Leos also gained experience baking the cookies. Thank you for your support, Assuntarians! ROAR!
