Leo Christmas Charity Bazaar 2015

On the 4^th to 6^th and 11^th to 13^th of December 2015, 6 Leos helped out at the Leo Christmas Charity Bazaar 2015 held at Tropicana City Mall from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. This bazaar was a joint effort along with our sister clubs, the Leo Clubs of Petaling Jaya Integrity, SMK Taman SEA, SMK Damansara Jaya, and SMK Taman Petaling. The aim of this bazaar was to raise funds for five orphanages; Rumah Kids, Trinity Community Centre, Precious Children’s Home, House of Joy, and Agathians Shelter. 

     Items sold at the bazaar spanned from accessories, clothes, arts and craft, plush toys, and many more. The bazaar also held a “Secret Santa”, where members of the public could buy a gift for any of the children from the five orphanages. There was also a wish list made by the children for reference. By the end of the bazaar, we had managed to collect gifts for 155 children from the five orphanages.

     Overall, the bazaar was a highly-successful project. The Leos were able to put their skills into practice by handling customers and bond with the other Leos. We would like to thank all who had visited and supported this Christmas Charity Bazaar and spread the joy of Christmas to those who are less fortunate. We hope to make this bazaar an annual project with our sister clubs! ROAR!

International Leo Day 2015 - District 308 B2 Malaysia Region 5 (Petaling Jaya)

On the 5^th of December every year, Leos across the globe celebrate the International Leo Day, a day that commemorates the formation of the first Leo Club in the world. In conjunction with this celebration, the Leo Club of SMK Assunta, Leo Club of Seksyen 4 Bandar Kinrara, Leo Club of La Salle Petaling Jaya, Leo Club of Serdang, Leo Club of Petaling Jaya Integrity, and Leo Club of Taman Petaling had organised a Leo Day event in Petaling Jaya at the Centre Atrium of Tropicana City Mall. 

     The event was held in Tropicana City Mall from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. First, we had a booth set up with photos depicting the activities that were carried out by the Leo Clubs. We also had several performances followed by explanations about the Leo Club, aim, and purpose of the club by the Organising Chairperson. In the midst of it all, Leos walked around the shopping mall distributing recycle bags for free and selling cookies while also promoting Leo Day to the public. The aim was to encourage the use of recycle bags instead of plastic bags especially during grocery shopping. 

     Overall, the event was a successful one. Our booth sparked a curiosity amongst members of the public and they were delighted to receive a free recycle bag with the message “Give Green A Chance”. They were also more informed of the aim, purpose, and activities of the Leo Clubs, which fulfils our objective. We, on behalf of all the clubs involved, would like to thank all who came and supported our joint event. We, the Leo Club of SMK Assunta, would also like to thank the organising clubs for their dedication and hard work to making this event a success. May we continue to make a difference and serve the community together! ROAR!

Flashmob for Women Abuse Awareness

On the 5th of December 2015, 15 Leos participated in a flash mob which was organised by the Leo Club of SMK Assunta in conjunction with the International Leo Day held at Tropicana City Mall. The aim of this flash mob was to raise awareness regarding women abuse and promote the Leo Club to the public. We performed a few songs at the centre atrium of the mall and held up boards with messages that conveyed our support to saying no to violence against women. It was overall a very fun experience for the Leos and a successful project as members of the public were surprised by the suddenness of our flash mob but were supportive to our cause. ROAR!

Leo Dodgeball Tournament 2015

On the 27th of November 2015, the Leo Club of SMK Assunta jointly organised the Leo Dodgeball Tournament 2015 with the Leo Club of SMK USJ8. The tournament was held at Jump Street Asia from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. After all the participants had registered, the event kicked off with a briefing and a warm-up session conducted by one of the representatives of Jump Street Asia. After the warm-up session was a speech by the Vice Organising Chairperson 1. At 9:00 a.m., the tournament officially began. The winners of the tournament were Team Neon Peach at third place, Team Royal Blue at second place while Team Orange emerged as champions. It was overall a successful and fun event. Thank you to all who participated in this tournament! ROAR!

Christmas Memories Visit

On the 26^th of November 2015, 11 Leos visited the Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Triniti Selangor in conjunction with the “Christmas Memories” project. This “Spotlight On Children” project was held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. There was a dual aim to this project, which was to bring cheer to the underprivileged that grew up without their parents present as well as to teach the Leos to empathise with those who are less fortunate. There were 6 children at the care centre between the ages of 8 and 14.

      

     We arrived at the care centre and were introduced to the caretakers and the children at the care centre. We were divided into groups consisting of 2 Leos and 1 child and proceeded to make ornaments out of recyclable materials as decoration for  the donated Christmas tree that we put up. After the new ornaments were made, we decorated the Christmas tree with fairy lights and the ornaments that we made and were donated to us for our project’s use while listening to Christmas music to set the Christmas spirit.

      

     Afterwards, we passed over the books from our previous Book Collection Drive to the caretaker. The caretakers then asked if the Leo Club could help the care centre with a few sales which we agreed to do wholeheartedly. Then, the caretakers asked us to teach the children a dance routine we may know. We gathered in the garden and taught the children the dance routine. Later, the children performed a dance routine for us that they had learned prior to our visit.

     

     We left the care centre at 12:00 p.m., bidding our goodbyes to the children and thanking the caretakers for allowing us this opportunity to meet the children and spend time with them. It was overall a highly-enjoyable, eye opening project where we made memories that would never be forgotten.
