LEO Membership Drive 2016

     On the 5th of January 2016, the Leo Club of SMK Assunta had conducted our annual Leo Membership Drive. The aim of this project was to promote the Leo Club and encourage the students to join us. 7 Leos with their uniforms had gone into each class with signboards, one explaining about the acronym of LEO and the other bearing links to our club’s social media. We explained to the juniors about the Leo Club, the objective and purpose of the club, and examples of projects that were done. We also asked them to refer to our social media accounts so that they are able to understand further what we do to fulfil our purpose, which is to serve the school, community, and country.

     Overall, the membership drive was a success and many were interested to join our large Leo family. We then bid the students farewell with a famous Leo phrase, “ROAR, ROAR, ROAR!”.

2nd Region 5 Board of Directors Meeting

On the 3^rd of January 2016, 7 Leos attended the 2^nd Region 5 Board of Directors Meeting held at INTI International College Subang. The meeting began with the meeting being called to order at 9:30 a.m. by District Chairperson, Lion Alan Thoo, followed by the Leo Pledge and the roll call. Afterwards, each club sent a representative to speak about their respective clubs’ past projects dating from October to December 2015. Members of the Leo Cabinet, as well as Lion Alan, had given talks accompanied by inspirational videos. The meeting was then summarised and adjourned at 12:30 p.m. Overall, the meeting ran smoothly and it was a great experience. ROAR!

Joint Visitation To Distribute Christmas Gifts

     On the 17^th, 18^th, 19^th, 21^st, and 23^rd of December 2015, 2 Leos had visited six orphanages; Precious Children’s Home, Agathians Shelter, Trinity Community Centre, House of Joy, Rumah KIDS Subang, and Rumah KIDS Klang. The aim was to distribute Christmas gifts to the children that were collected from the Christmas Charity Bazaar 2015 that was organised beforehand. This was a joint visitation with our sister clubs, the Leo Clubs of Petaling Jaya Integrity, SMK Taman SEA, SMK Damansara Jaya, and SMK Taman Petaling. Overall, the visitations were successful and highly-enjoyable as the children were exalted to receive their respective Christmas gifts. The smiles on their face when they received their gifts lit up our hearts.  ROAR!

Rumah Hope Visitation

     On the 26^th of December 2015, 6 Leos visited Rumah Hope from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. The aim of the project was to spend some quality time with the children whose ages ranged from 13 to 16. We first volunteered to help clean the home by sweeping the dusty floors. Next, we taught the children how to make crane origami using coloured papers. Each of them wrote their wishes and ambitions on pieces of paper that were then folded into the shape of cranes. Some of the children were having a hard time folding the paper into cranes but we continued instructing them with care and patience. A container was prepared so that they could place their paper cranes in it.  

     Overall, it was a successful project as everything went on very smoothly. It was also a joyful, heart-warming experience and we were honoured and happy to be able to help the orphans. For us, making one person smile can change the world. Maybe not the whole world, but definitely their world.

Project Mistletoe

     On the 21^st of December 2015, 10 Leos visited Trinity Care Centre from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This “Spotlight On Children” project was a joint effort with the Leo Clubs of SMK La Salle Petaling Jaya and SMK La Salle Klang. There were about 12 kids from the orphanage ranging from 6 to 15 years old. After a brief ice-breaking session, we started our first game with the children, Christmas-related charades. The children had a fun time acting out the words that were given and also guessing the words that their friends and some Leos had acted out. 

     Afterwards, we moved on to our second game which was a quiz game. We asked them a few questions that were also related to Christmas and the kids had to ask around for the answers. Some kids even intelligently took the questions to Google! After the informative game that benefited both the orphans and Leos, we had a game of “Musical Chairs” and then had a quick break to drink some water and also to enjoy the scrumptious sandwiches prepared by two of the Leos.

      
     After all of us had sufficient rest, we started our fourth game which was “Ice and Water”. This game was explained and the children and Leos were divided into two groups, one being “Ice” and the other being “Water”. It was a very exhilarating and tiring game as it required a lot of running but nevertheless, everyone had the time of their lives. The children seemed not to run out of energy as they ran around and chased each other while some were slightly out of breath. Later, we launched into our last game, “Poison Ball”. The Leos, although tired, participated in the game and kept up with the happy children who seemed to have an endless amount of energy.

     
     At 5.00 pm, we said our goodbye’s to the children and we thanked the caretakers of the home for hosting us and welcoming us into their homes with open arms. Overall, the project was a successful and meaningful one for us as we learned that we should never take anything for granted and to enjoy the excitement of adventure. We hope to return to the orphanage and see the children’s cheerful smiles again. Merry Christmas!

Leo International Relationship Camp 4

On the 11th to 13th of December 2015, 9 Leos attended the 4th Leo International Relationship Camp themed S.W.A.G. that was held in Brindley Training & Camp in Port Dickson, Malaysia. The theme, S.W.A.G., is an acronym for the phrase "Serving With A Goal". This camp was a District 308 B2 Region 5 project jointly-organised by the Leo Clubs of Metro Methodist College Kuala Lumpur, Sunway Metro (O), Portman College Metro, SMK Taman SEA, SMK Assunta, Sri Kuala Lumpur, SMK Seksyen 4 Bandar Kinrara, SMK USJ4, SMK La Salle PJ, SMK Seafield, and SMK Bandar Utama 3. Joining us all the way from Sri Lanka were 4 Leos from the Leo Club of Nawala Metro together with Lion Buddhika. The camp was a highly-successful as we gained valuable experience as well as bonded with the other Leos. We hope this camp will continue to be organised for many more years to come. ROAR!
