Hike At Gasing Hill

     On the 27^th of February 2016, 10 Leos along with 2 guardians had hiked up Gasing Hill as part of a health project. They were joined by Othmar Fetz, the author of the Leo Book who was on a 3-day visit to Malaysia. Two Leos had picked Othmar up from his hotel before bringing him to a mamak shop for a light breakfast before the hike. The Leos then joined them at the shop before heading to Gasing Hill. 

     Being inexperienced hikers, the Leos soon faced fatigue at the halfway mark up the hill. Although they were exhausted, they motivated each other, pushing themselves to the limit until they reached the end of their two-hour long hike. After the hike, they had gone for lunch together with Othmar as a bonding session and also as a form of celebration for their hard-worked-for victory. 

     Overall, the project was highly-successful. Through the hike, we had learned that although an obstacle may be difficult or even seen as near impossible to accomplish, anything can happen with determination and team work. With the motivation from their peers, the Leos managed to overcome the challenge of the day which was the hike up the hill.  It proved that nothing was impossible with a positive attitude. We also hope that Othmar had enjoyed today’s activity and welcome to Malaysia! ROAR!

Leolympics 2016 - Badminton

     On the 20th of February 2016, 4 Leos had participated in the 2016 Leolympics for Badminton held at Forum 19. The Leos were split into two team, giving their all during the matches with team spirit. Overall, it was a successful and enjoyable event. We hope to improve on our gameplay and participate in next year’s Leolympics. ROAR!

Chinese New Year: Gift of Oranges

    On the 5^th of February 2016, 5 Leos had participated in a project, “Chinese New Year: Gift of Oranges” in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year festival. The aim of the project was to give a gift of oranges to every teacher in school and wish them a very Happy Chinese New Year. The teachers’ faces lit up with delight when they received the mandarin oranges and thanked us warmly in return. We, the Leo Club of SMK Assunta, would like to wish everyone a very safe and Happy Chinese New Year! ROAR!

Spring Cleaning

     On the 3rd of February 2016, 16 Leos and probates had participated in the “Spring Cleaning” project held from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. The aim of this project was to clean up the backstage of the Sister Enda Hall of SMK Assunta. A few members of the English Literary & Debating Society (ELDS) had also joined us in this clean-up as the society uses the backstage rooms for their annual concert, Lit Night. 

     The backstage was split into three rooms; the bathroom, the dressing room, and the props room. Leos, probates, and members of the ELDS were split into two groups to clean up the two rooms. In the dressing room, costumes cluttered in a wardrobe were rearranged, the dressing table was cleared up and wiped with wet cloth, and after the groundwork was completed to make it a neater room, the floor was swept. 

     The props room was very disorganised and messy as props from the ELDS’ concert, Lit Night, were strewn everywhere. The old props were taken out and dismantled, the items on the racks were rearranged neatly, and old banners were refolded and stacked on top of each other. After clearing up a number of props and items, the room was much more spacious and the floor was then swept. 

     Although the backstage was dirty, messy, and in disarray, we managed make it a better environment for our fellow Assuntarians to dwell in especially during events. We could not have accomplished this without the combined effort of the Leos, probates, and members of the ELDS. Overall, the project was successful. We would also like to thank the probates and members of the ELDS for joining us to make this clean-up a success. As the saying goes, “Many hands make light work”. ROAR!

CLD L-E-O Workshop

     On the 1^st of February 2016, 17 Leos had attended the CLD L-E-O Workshop held at the Bilik Kuliah in SMK Assunta. The workshop was conducted by the District Chairperson of Leadership and Development (Region 5), Lion Kenneth Yeoh. The workshop began at 2:00 p.m. with a talk about the three aspects; Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity. After the talk, we were split into five groups. Each group then proceeded to do a short presentation on the topics they were assigned to after ten minutes of preparation. The workshop ended with a short test. 

     Overall, the workshop was successful as we had gained experience and knowledge through the talk and presentation. With this, we hope to grow as individual Leos by being equally-balanced in every aspect while serving the community and our school to the best of our abilities. ROAR!
