Pictures from SUPER GREEN MAN project :)

We started off by sketching out a rough figure of a recyclable man
Then, we started building parts of the green man. Leos at work :)

The tin cans were used to make the legs and arms of the green man.

Our Environmental Director,Joey Young, working on it very carefully ;)

The other team, figuring out how to build a man out of old newspapers

Danielle, trying to put the old boxes together to make the body of the green man.

These old flyers and brown papers were used to make a superman like cloth for the green man

The other team used newspapers to form the arms of the green man.

Now that was fast! but,can the man stand?

Final touch-ups!

The completed top half of the man :)

The green man is ready! just gotta figure out how to make him stand or Divane's gonna have to hold on to him like this forever ;p

While the other team has already succeded in making their man stand, they now work on beautifying him =D

And finally, a pretty, pretty man is produced from hours of handling with recyclable items!

The completed green man produced by the Leos :) Result of much creativity, innovation and superb building skills.

The master minds with their master piece :))

Together, we can!
and the SIFU behind it all, our very own Environmental Director!

The’Super Green Man ‘Project

On the 21st of August 2009 the Leo Club of Assunta Secondary School organized the ‘Super Green Man’ project. Students from each class were required to bring tin cans, newspapers, and other recyclable items from home in order to build a ‘Green Man’. This project was publicized during assembly in school when Leo Joey Young and I, Leo Leya Thomas went up to speak about this project. This project has indefinitely caused the student body to be excited as this kind of a project has never been done before. This project was carried out after school on Friday and each class from Form 4 had to bring recyclable items and each class had to send 8 representatives to build the ‘Green Man’. The biggest and tallest ‘Green Man ‘built by a team would be rewarded with a mystery prize.

The objective of this project was to encourage students to recycle as the practice of recycling has dwindled and therefore this project was used to rekindle the spirit of recycling. Furthermore this project was also carried out to produce a cleaner environment as with a growing population comes a growing number of trashes. Therefore by recycling, the environment would be very much cleaner. Last but definitely not the least, this project was to enhance the creativity of pupils as well as spread awareness to the student body about the need to go green and to practice the 3R concept ,
‘Reduce, Re-use and Recycle’

This project was carried out at the Assunta Square at 1.00 pm. Students from various classes attended this project. Even a few Leos formed their own group. Firstly, the organizing chairperson, Leo Joey Young gave a short introduction to this project as well as the time limit given to each team to complete this task. After the talk, each team started building their own ‘Green Man’. Sweat, blood and tears were put into this process to produce the best ‘Green Man’.
Throughout this project we were monitored by our Leo teacher advisor, Pn Low. As it was a rather sunny day and since Pn Low had some bottles of drinks, our dear teacher quenched our thirsts by treating each team to a drink. As it was already 2.30p.m, each team had to stop building and start cleaning up.

Although this task was a rather challenging task, since it has never been done before, I certainly think it turned out very well. I hope in the future, more projects like these would be carried out to give students the opportunity of making the world a better place in an enjoyable way.

Your in Leoism,
Leo Leya Thomas
(Secretary of The Green Man project)
