Visit to Rumah Setia ( old folks home)

Hey Leos, remember all the singing, silly made-up games and socializing with the old folks?
Scroll down to recapture those great moments in Rumah Setia :)

A simple but memorable deed, wasn't it? ;)

And here's the report by Leo Lim Hui Kuan

On the 31st of July 2009, a trip was organised by the Leo Club of SMK Assunta to the Seri Setia Old Folks Home in Sungai Way.18 leo members and 2 teachers advisors participated in this event. We were there to visit the senior citizens and stayed there from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm.
Why did we go there? Well, we wanted toshow these old folks that someone cares about them and that they are not forgotten. In addition to that, we also wanted to cheer them up and remind them of all the fun there was to life. The Seri Setia Old Folks Home compound was well maintained. The environment was clean and peaceful.

Prior to the visit, we held some interesting activities such as singing songs, and playing games. As such, we brought newspapers, cellophane tape, congkak seeds and plastic spoons to ensure the old folks have an opportunity to participate in these interesting activities. First of all, we sang a few songs to cheer them up and then moved on to the passing congkak seeds game. Once everybody was acquainted with one another, we gave out some soaps and towels to the old folks. We also gave out some crackers which was sponsored by Lion Ivan to the old folks. While doing so, several leo members played a game. The goal was to create an animal using newspaper with some old folks.

During the game session, the old folks turned out to be very sporting by taking part whole –heartedly. As I interviewed an old folk, he said that they were given 4 meals a day; breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner. Most of the old folks were around 65 to 75 years old. Leo members also took many pictures with the old folks to keep it as a good memory.
When it was time to leave, we all felt heartbroken. We were unhappy to part with them, yet we were glad that we had visited and cheered them up that day. After holding this trip to Seri Setia Old Folks Home, the Leo club wish that they will be able to raise more funds for the convenience of the old folks and to visit them more often. It was certainly an eye-opening experience.
