Christmas Charity Bazaar 2009!!
We, Leos from Assunta and La Salle Klang were there a day earlier to hang the banner, check out the stage, arrange the tables and sort out the items that we were going to sell. The bazaar was held from 10.00am-10.00pm on the first two days. Throughout the three days of the bazaar, we had a Christmas tree placed at our booth. The Christmas tree served as a place where we hung pictures, names and ages of the orphans. Every time we get a customer who wishes to donate the gifts she/he has bought, they may choose the kid they would like to donate to from the tree. This, made it easier for our customers to understand the true objectives behind our project.
Besides the items that were donated by some of our Leos, we also sold the Christmas gifts we got from two different gift shops. I must say, that our sales were increasingly successful day after day, due to the enthusiastic bunch of promoters/LEOS, from Assunta and La Salle Klang, who volunteered to help out at the bazaar. The Leos were determined and full of spirit to attract customers to buy something from our stall although some Leos were worn out from doing more than one shift a day. Some Leos stood at the entrance of the mall, and gave out our bazaar flyers and flyers from the orphanages to passer bys. The other half, walked around the mall with big bears and stationary sets that we had on sale, and tried to approach shoppers who were interested, while the rest of the Leos stationed themselves at our stall and promoted our items to anybody who passed by. It was truly a display of immeasurable Leo Spirit!
Though in the beginning, many customers just peeked and walked past our stall. Many actually came back to make enquiries regarding our project. We, Leos explained the objectives, targets and aims of our bazaar without forgetting to mention that our project was for a good cause. Our explanations definitely paid off, as many customers decided to purchase items from our stall for either themselves, or as Christmas presents for the orphans from the 3 homes we were donating to, right after they understood the true purpose of our project. We were so lucky to have so many extremely generous customers, particularly an aunty from a white country, who spent more than RM200 by just purchasing items such as handbags and Christmas decorations for her self and Christmas presents for a total of 11 orphans. But, that wasn’t it. She actually came back to our stall and donated another 200 ringgit so we could get gifts for all the remaining orphans! With wide smiles and heart full of satisfaction, we thanked her and offered her free cupcakes.
On the 20th of December 2009, the last day of our bazaar, we had our Closing Ceremony from 5pm to 7pm on the stage in Subang Parade. The emcee for the Closing Ceemony was Leo Shaun from the Leo Club of La Salle, Klang. A few Lions from the Sponsoring Lions Club were invited. Namely, Lion Ivan Ho, Lion Balu and Lion Clayton Tan who represented the Lions Club of Petaling Jaya and Klang.
The Closing Ceremony would have been meaningless without the presence of kids from Rumah K.I.D.S, Kirtarsh Home and Philea Home. Therefore, the orphans from all three homes were invited. However, only Kirtarsh Home and Rumah K.I.D.S were able to make it with a total of 30 kids. We started our Closing Ceremony with a carolling performance by the Leos from Assunta and SMK Sultan Abdul Samad . The carolling performance definitely attracted many shoppers to stop by and join us for our Closing Ceremony. After that, Leo Bryan, the organizing chairperson of our bazaar, gave an inspiring speech and thanked all the Leos and Lions who helped make this project a success. He also did not forget to mention how grateful we Leos were for the help and assistance provided by the Subang Parade Management throughout the duration of the bazaar.
Then came the most exciting part of the ceremony, the presentation of Christmas gifts to the orphans, which was done by Lion Clayton. We had another round of carolling performance, before we moved on. The Leos sang well and it definitely helped lift up the spirit of those who were watching. Up next, we had the mock check presentation to the representatives from both, K.I.D.S and Kirtarsh home. The mock cheque was also presented by Lion Clayton, accompanied by Leo Shereen Raj and Leo Kamaldip. A total of One Thousand Ringgit was donated to both the homes. We took a group picture before we officially ended our closing ceremony. Once the closing ceremony was over, we proceeded to KFC to give all the 30 kids a dinner treat. Everyone managed to bond with each other happily and we got to know the kids better. By the end of the day, the kids left, not only with a full tummy but also with broad grins on their faces!
It was indeed a very successful project as our goals and objectives were achieved. On behalf of the Bazaar Committee, the Leo Club of Assunta would like to thank Lion Ivan, Lion Balu and Lion Clayton for attending our project and showing their support. Thank you also, to the Leo Club of Sultan Abdul Samad who were willing to be part of our Closing Ceremony, and everyone who have put in their greatest efforts to make our Christmas Charity Bazaar this year, yet another successful and productive project! To the Leo Club of La Salle Klang, a loud and macho CHEERS (!) for a great project which we are all proud of.

Report on Christmas Caroling 4Dec09
We boarded the bus and headed of to Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home. The kids were all very excited to see us there. As some of us had been there before, the kids already knew us and were already talking away. Then it came time for us to sing and the kids joined in again. Some of the Leo’s created a little circle with the kids and jump and danced around in it. Many of the kids actually were drawn to the guitar players as they seemed to have a liking towards the guitar. Just before leaving we got together with the children to take a group picture and to present the gifts to the kids and also the hamper to the caretaker.
Then, around 11am left for the next home which was the Agathian Home. At the Agathian Home, we got to know the kids a little better before singing with them. After the little bonding session we started to sing the songs. Half way through our singing, Leo Shereen came up with the idea to play a game. Everyone joined in and it was a whole lot of fun. At the end of it the kids were given their presents and we presented a hamper to the caretaker of the home. We also took a group photo with the kids before leaving. On our way out, we wished all the kids Merry Christmas. It was 12pm when we boarded the bus again. Everyone was already getting hungry so it was time for lunch. The bus driver dropped us of at Old Town. Most of us walked over to Mc Donald’s to get our lunch and some just went to a nearby shop to get some food. We were then asked to get back to the bus at about 1 o’clock.
Next, we headed of for Precious Home. They looked really happy as Santa Claus came into their home. Then we started to sing and some of them joined in. Some of them even went in front to dance with Santa Claus as we sang the song ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town’ . Later on we had the kids hug Santa Claus to get their presents. They did as they were told and we went on to singing our last song. After taking a group photo with the kids we gave a hamper to the caretaker and left for the next home.
It was 2.00 when we reached The Ozanam Home(II). There weren’t that many kids there as most of them had gone for holiday camps. Most of them who were there were teens. We had them join us with the singing and we also played some games with them. Then we gave out the presents and a hamper to the caretaker as we headed off to next home. It was raining outside but we had one more home to go before we called it a day. So we walked over to The Ozanam Home(I). We got into the house and sat around with the children and started to sing with them. Santa Claus then gave out some presents and we wished the kids a Merry Christmas. At about 3.45pm we left the home after taking a group picture again.
This event was a fun one and should definitely be carried out every year. The objective for the event was achieved and the most important thing is that we were able to put smiles on the faces of the children. I hope that we would continue to carry out this event for the years to come.

Attention Members!
Hope all of you are enjoying your holidays but please don't enjoy too much, REMEMBER there are some Projects on, and it will be great if you could take part in it .
Anyways, here is a quick shout-out to all FORM 3 members!!
For those Form 3's who might want a post in the following Fiscal Year, here are some rules:
- Each member that is ELIGIBLE to run for a post MUST have already OC-ed one project! It can be any project, it does not matter whether it is a health project/ social service project or whatever. The main IDEA here is to just develop that LEADERSHIP skill in you!So, come one and just go up to ANY form 4 board member other than KEY OFFICERS and get yourself involve in a project!
- The nominee for board next year must not have MORE than 1 warning letter. Anyone with more than one warning letter will be immediately disqualified if "she" is running for a post.
So, basically these are the only 2 criteria for now.
We will keep on adding if we think it is necessary.
Keep in-tune to this post fellow form 3's!!

Christmas Charity Bazaar!!
Hello Everyone :)
Christmas Charity Bazaar is our club's annual project and this year we are organizing it jointly with the LEO CLUB OF LASALLE KLANG.
What is the bazaar about?
Christmas Charity Bazaar is an event where all kinds of Christmas gifts and ornaments are sold for charity. The gifts are obtained from the donation of Leo Club members and through sponsorships from various gift shops/factories.
The gifts will then be left for sale throughout the duration of the bazaar. Shoppers who wish to donate their money for a good cause during the festive/holy season will purchase the items at our stall.
This year, we are going to have face and nail painting services at our stall! We'll probably have sand art and sell some cupcakes too. So, all you leos who are good at face and nail painting, you gotta come and show us your talent. Your skills are needed for a good cause!
All proceeds from the bazaar this year, will be donated to "Rumah Kids" in Klang :)
What are the objectives of this project??
1. To promote the importance of being charitable during the festive season to the community.
2. To help purchase Christmas gifts for the less fortunate children.
3. To expose participating Leos to a working environment as they convince shoppers to purchase the gifts that are being sold.
4. To reach out, remember and share the festive joy with the less fortunate.
5. To do charity in an unusual, but good way.
So fellow Leos, all you have to do is come and support this bazaar by providing manpower. We need 3 Leos per shift, everyday. 3 hours per shift.
Choose one/more date and shift based on the list below and leave a comment under this post if you can come.

Report on Leo Oppor-Unity Camp 2009
The camp started at 5pm on the 13th of November 2009 and ended at 6pm the following day. We started the camp with the tent buildingEach tent could fit 6 people. There were about 8 to 9 tents that we built.
When we were done building the tents, we waited for all the form 2’s to arrive as they had school that afternoon. Then we went to the Bilik Kuliah for the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony started as soon as Lion Ivan Ho arrived, following that, we all had dinner in the school canteen..
At 9pm after dinner, we headed to the field to start the ice breaking game and other fun games. For ice breaking, we played a game called ‘Hit and Run’. This game was organized by Leo Divane and Leo Darshina. In this game, we were all required to know each and every one’s name at that camp. Right after that ice breaking, we went to the hall for more games. We played games called ‘This is a..’, ‘Cat and Mouse’ and ‘I like everybody, especially those…’. All of these games were organized by Leo Jaishree. We also played a game called ‘Ha Ha Ha’ which was organized by Leo Shereen. When these games were done, Leo Jaishree divided us to four groups for the next game which was ‘Amazing Race’. Each group was told to choose a team leader, a team name and a team cheer. The ‘Amazing Race’ started at 12 midnight and ended at 2.30am. Everyone was exhausted after the game. We all went to bed in our tents right after the game
The next day, we woke up at 6.30am for the morning exercise. After the energetic exercise, we washed up, packed up, kept our tents and got ready for breakfast. At 8.30am which was after breakfast, we started our first game of the day at the Mutiara Basement. The game was called ‘Cobweb’ and was organized by Leo Cheryl. Then, we headed to the Bilik Kuliah for a leadership seminar by RCC, Lion Clayton Tan The seminar was very inspiring. When he ended his seminar, the Leo Club of SMK Assunta handed a token of appreciation to Lion Clayton Tan and also to Lion Ivan Ho. At 12pm, we went to the canteen for lunch.
After lunch, we were told to clean up the hall, the toilets and everywhere around the school. Then, we played a game called ‘Let’s Go around the World’ organized by Leo Lilian. We were also divided into four groups for this game. This game was held at the field and it was a tiring game because we had to run around a lot as our school field was humongous! The winner of this game was group four and the second place went to group three. Then, we had tea and the winner of the game shared their gift with everyone. At 3.30pm, we played the last game for the camp which was called ‘What’s your action’ organized by Leo Cheryl. At 4pm, we had a closing ceremony where we took a group photo and also presented gifts to the ‘Amazing Race’ winners. The Leo Club of SMK Assunta had also given Pn Low and Pn Aishah a token of appreciation.
This camp was a fun and wonderful. The Leos had achieved the objectives of this camp. We all learned a lot of moral values which are very important such as communication, working together as a team, time management, listening carefully, talk one by one, be alert all the time, having good strategies, not giving up and having a good leader. The camp was a success. I hope that next year there will be more camps like this.
Thank you

Zoo Day Report :D
On the 31st of October 2009, the LEO Club of SMK Assunta participated in a project called ‘Zoo Day!!’. It involved 19 members of the club from form 3 and 4, accompanied by our teacher advisors, Pn Aisyah and Pn. Low Kim Hong as well as our Lion advisor, Lion Ivan Ho, taking a group of children from the Sentosa …Centre, all of whom are between the ages of 4 to 12 years old, to Zoo Negara to give them the opportunity of getting to see exotic animals and also learn more about them. The project was held to promote environmental awareness as well as providing the less fortunate children with an experience that was fun but yet educational.
We left the school by a school bus at exactly 8.00 am. We took about 15 minutes to reach the centre to pick up the children before we took off again. In the bus, we had a get to know session where the LEOs had to interrogate their ‘anaks’ about themselves and they were to tell three things about their ‘anaks’ to the rest. The 45 minutes after that pick up point in the bus was used for this activity to provide a more cheerful surrounding and to make sure the children don’t get bored.
We reached the zoo at exactly 9.00 am which was according to the schedule in hand. We had a group photo session with the children before we took our wrist passes and entered. We began by visiting the reptile house first. There, the children got to see many species of crocodiles, snakes, pythons and cobras. After that, we went upstairs to the Amphibian World to see the many kinds of amphibians, some alive safely behind the glass, and some that are dead and preserved inside jars. As we were about to leave however, we had an unexpected surprise, though some of them weren’t so pleased with it. There was an escaped bullfrog somewhere at the middle of the stairs. Some refused to move until the frog jumped out of the way giving them the freedom to actually move.
After that, we followed our planned route which was to go see the lions and tigers. We took a few pictures of ourselves with the lions and tigers at a distance. Then, we did our clubs roll call in front of the lion as it represents our logo. Later, we went around and got to see the other animals like the monkeys, bears, hippopotamus, cranes and flamingos. However, the part we enjoyed at that moment was seeing the giraffes and elephants. The children took a while to process the fact that these creatures look much bigger and majestic up close as compared to the ones they usually watched on television. This got them really awed and appreciative that they got the chance to see them up close. They then enjoyed leaning in to take pictures of themselves with the giraffes and elephants in the distance.
We soon moved on to the Animal Show which was scheduled to begin at 12.00 pm. We took our seats and waited for the show to begin. The show began on a very grand note with the release of a flock of birds. One of the instructors then came out to welcome us all and tell us some of the few rules we have to follow. After that, the show officially began with a performance from a parrot that was all the way from Venezuela, South America. It showed us its basketball skills as well as its acrobatic ability. The next performance was a from a 4 year old seal from Africa followed by a 19 year old sea lion from Amsterdam, Netherlands. The show lasted for about 20 minutes before it ended.
At 12.20 pm, we headed towards the Bee Museum instead of the aquarium as according to schedule as many people were also headed there after the show. Therefore, to avoid any mishaps, we skipped that stop. At the bee museum, we got to see real live bees as well as models of it. We also got to taste some of the organic honey straight from the bee farm. After that, we all went to the ‘Wild’ restaurant where we had a burger, fries and a cup if iced Milo for lunch. It was a moment for us to rest and refill ourselves before we take off again.
At exactly 1.00 pm, we headed towards the Savannah Walk. Here, the animals were allowed a bit more space to roam as in like their natural habitat where the herbivores are not confined with their own species as compared to the other animals in the zoo. The feeling was as if we were in Africa itself. We then followed the route that took us to our final pit stop where we got to see all the orang utans, chimpanzees and apes. It was extremely exciting to see the movement of these creatures and how in a way it shows a few traits of a human being. As it was our last stop, we took the route back to the entrance where we checked out and took another snapshot as a group with out LEO banner in the middle.
We left the zoo at about 2.00 pm with the same bus. In the bus, we asked the children of how the trip was and got a positive response to it. Then we heard a speech from the organizing chairperson herself, Leya Tomas, the co-chairperson, Darshina Ruba and the funding director for this project, Ting Pei Lim. We then handed out a few souvenirs to the children as a remembrance. The trip back home was shorter than the trip to the zoo. We only took 45 minutes in all to drop the children off at their centre and reached school at exactly 2.45 pm where we all headed back home after that. It was a truly enjoyable experience that one could never forget.

Leo Warning Letters and Project Cards!
Regarding the matter above, as I have mentioned in the previous meeting that many of ya'll DID NOT ATTEND, we are taking the WARNING LETTER system very serious from now on.
Everytime you do not attend a MEETING without any reason or LETTER OF ABSENTEE signed by your parents, you will be given a WARNING LETTER.
Therefore, to ALL the LEO's out there that did not attend last Friday's meeting (6/11/2009), you will need to hand in a letter of absentee to Pn Low Kim Hong (teacher advisor) before this Friday(13/11/2009). Otherwise, you might just find another warning letter heading your way.
Besides that, Project Cards will also be COLLECTED by this Friday(13/11/2009). So fellow LEO's out there, please hand in your cards to Jaishree (4Sc2) or you can put it in the small compartment on the LEO board in school. Well, LEO's please get all the necessary signatures and hand it in, or else, once again you might be faced with another Warning Letter.
I am sorry that I have to be hard on you all, but we need your full cooperation in order for the club to be SUCCESSFUL!
Thank you Leo's!
yours in leo-ism,
President 09/10
P/s :
you need a minumum of 10 projects to be in your project card from July till Mid-November :)

Report on Movie Drive
On the 27th and 28th of October 2009, the Leo Club of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Assunta held a movie screening. The title of the movies played was shown is G.I. Joe and The Proposal. This movie screening was held at the school’s AV room 1. The movie started showing at 10.30 in the morning. The tickets were sold at RM 2 each to mostly form three students.
The objective of the movie screening was to raise funds for charity. The money collected is for the purpose of buying Christmas gifts for orphans. We collected RM 196 in total and sold 98 tickets to the students. The board of directors of the Leo Club of Assunta had also decided to screen the movie on this date as it coincide with the form 3 students finishing their PMR examination and so they could enjoy themselves.
The movie ended at around 12 noon on both days. The students loved the movies and gave positive comments. Many of them were glad they had watched the movie. The event was a success and the students were all happy. We hoped that projects like this would be carried out more often.
