On the 13th and 14th May 2010, some of the Leo members stayed back in school to help out with the preparations for the gifts to teacher’s in conjunction with Teacher’s Day that was held on the 17th May 2010. There were around 10 Leo’s who voluntarily stayed back. The location this project was held was in one of the classes in Mutiara Top. This project was held on Thursday at 1.30pm until 3.30pm and on Friday from 1.30pm until 2.30pm.
This project was held not only to prepare gifts for the teachers but it also helped the form 4 Leo’s know more about the Form 3 Leo’s. The gifts prepared were black and blue pens and a ferrero rocher. In each pen, a note was slipped into it saying Happy Teacher’s Day. Then, the pens and the ferrero rocher were wrapped beautifully in different coloured crepe paper. Lastly, a poem that was printed out by Leo Loshni was pasted on each and every gift. There were also two special gifts made for two of our teacher advisors for the Leo Club, Pn. Suguna and Pn. Nurul Aini. The gifts were glass board with quotes and decorated with glass painting.
There are 105 teacher’s in SMK Assunta including morning session teacher’s, afternoon session teacher’s and definitely not forgetting the administrators. The amount of gifts wrapped was 120 just incase there were any new trainee teacher’s that would be entering on Teacher’s Day. The pens and ferrero rocher was bought on the 12th May 2010 by Leo Grace Keow. The cost prices for all the gifts were approximately RM 150. There were some items sponsored by some of the Leo members. For example, Leo Loshni sponsored the printing of the notes and the poems and Leo Grace sponsored some of the Ferrero Rocher and also the crepe paper.
On Teacher’s Day which fell on the 17th May 2010, some of the Leo’s came to school early to place the gifts on every teacher’s desk. Even a non-Leo help out which is Cassandra. Most of the teacher’s seem glad to see a present for them on their desk. Pn. Hong’s gift was specially wrapped with more colourful crepe paper than the other teacher’s as she is the principle of SMK Assunta. We had to get permission from the clerk in the office before entering the administrator’s offices.
Last but not least, we placed the two special gifts for each of our special teacher advisors. There were 10 gifts left as we bought extra. Miraculously, we were not wrong when we said that new trainee teachers would be entering on that day as there was one new trainee teacher that did. All the hard work done by the Leo’s that stayed back has definitely not gone to waste because we could see that in the teacher’s faces that they really appreciated the gifts.
This project definitely went well as all teachers received a gift. Gifts like this should definitely be given out to all teachers especially the teacher’s advisors to show the teacher’s how much we really appreciate all their hard work and struggle that they had to go through to teach us as students. I hope gifts like this would be given out for the following year.
