At 12.00pm, the futsal matches began. Half way through the event, it started to rain heavily. Unfortunately, we had to wait quite some time for the rain to stop before proceeding with all the matches.

To make up for lost time, the tug-o-war competition was carried out while the futsal matches were also going on. Every team used all the energy they had to pull the ropes. Good team efforts were portrayed through this event.

All the events ended at about 2.45pm, and Lion Nicholas Seow presented the medals and trophies to the winning participants and teams. Our club managed to come home with a medal for the 3 legged race. We were all exhausted after spending a day in the hot sun. However, we did enjoy ourselves very much and we got to know many new people.

Report on Cupcake Time!

On the 6th of July 2010, in conjunction with the Open Day of SMK Assunta, the Leo Club of Assunta Secondary School organized a fundraising project, ‘Cupcake Time!’. Our target was to raise a total of RM350 and we managed to achieve our goal. The objective of this project is to raise funds for our school service projects.
We set up the stall by the hall at approximately 9.15am. We sold varieties of cupcakes and muffins. Our leo members were ever willing to lend a hand and we baked all the items we sold. It was definitely 100% homemade. The Leos who were involved took 1 hour shifts.
At about 9.30am, parents started to come and there were some parents who bought the cupcakes and muffins without hesitating because they knew it is for a good cause. There were also many students who bought the cupcakes.
At around 10.30am, we sold at least half of our items. More parents came and they were very interested in the creativity of students and what we would do for our school. There were also parents who bought a minimum of 15 packets of muffins and cupcakes.
By 11.15 am, we sold all the cupcakes and muffins. We worked together to clean up the area and to pack everything up. We managed to raise RM 400 and we were very glad that all our hard work had paid off.
This project was definitely a success and we are looking forward for more opportunities to help our school in anything we can. It was a job well done and we went home with a smile on our face.

A Report on The ‘Kempen Keselamatan 2010’

On the 2nd of July, 13 members from the Leo club of Assunta Secondary School attended the ‘Kempen Keselamatan 2010’ organized by DIGI. The objective of this talk was to create awareness about the abuse of technology and on what to do to avoid accidents. The talk was held at the ‘Bilik Kuliah’ from 12.35p.m to 1.30p.m.

The talk was started by introducing the definition of a bully. The speaker gave examples of the different types of bullies happening in schools. Besides, he taught us the right ways to encounter them. The talk got really interesting as the speaker had a good sense of humour.

Next, he talked about the safety precautions when boarding a bus. We learned that queuing up is vital to prevent injuries. Not only that, he mentioned the dangers of snatch theft. It is important to keep our belongings under the seat to avoid snatch theft and to always keep an eye for our belongings.

After that, he talked about the correct ways to avoid the spread of H1N1 which includes covering your nose when you sneeze, wash your hands frequently and always wear a mask when you’re sick. Then, he introduced the abuse of technologies such as the internet and the cell phones. The speaker shared the pros and cons of the internet and cell phones. From this, we were taught the appropriate ways to prevent cyber crimes. Lastly, the talk was ended by a few questions. Four girls managed to do their best to get the right answers. Each of them were given a present from DIGI.

All in all, this talk gave us helpful tips to prevent cyber crimes as well as to avoid H1N1. We were glad that this talk had indirectly helped us in our daily lives.
