A Report on the arranging of chairs for Open Day

On the 6th of July 2011, the members of the Leo Club of SMK Assunta were in charge of the hall arrangements. The members gathered in the Sister Enda Hall at around 7:30 a.m. right after the morning assembly. After they were instructed on the positions of the tables and chairs, starting with the Form 4 and 5 classes on the left side of the hall, the Form 3 classes on the right side and the subject teachers in front of the stage.

The members were assigned different duties. Some were to carry down chairs from the store room, take out the tables from the basement and the rest were assigned to arrange the chairs and tables. At the beginning, the members were working at a fast pace, chairs and tables were taken down at a very uncontrollable pace needing extra members to assist.

But the feeling of exhaustion came and everything started to move slowly. At about the 120th chair, the members that were arranging had to stop and help bring down more chairs. In the end, after getting energized again, work got done faster and all that was left was the arranging.

After the arranging, table cloths were put on each table and 4 chairs were put at each table followed by 3 rows of 6 chairs in the front of each station for the parents to sit while waiting for their turn. A teacher came to check on the arrangements and corrected a few mistakes. The arrangements were done and the members were told to return to class as the lessons were on. The time was 8.30 a.m.

While carrying out this activity, members bonded with each other through working together, having the true spirit of teamwork. Everyone worked well together, communicated well and in the end got everything done. Even though everyone was tired with sweat and dusty fingers, they were really happy to help out.

A Report on The ICSMKA's IU Day

On the 3rd of July 2011. Our school’s Interact Club had their International Understanding Day at the Malaysian Airlines Academy to raise money for the unfortunate children who don’t have education. The event started at around 1.30 p.m. All the guests were required to stand and sing “Negaraku” and the Viva La Interact Song. They began their IU Day with a very interesting performance called ‘Lighted Future’. The emcee for the day was a Red Fm DJ named Linora Low. After that, a video presentation was put up to introduce the organizing committee, followed by the roll call by all the Interactors and Leos.

Not long after that, Rotarian Lim Kok Beng, was called to the stage to give his speech followed by Leena Thevi, the International Understanding Director. Miss Dorothy Ng, from Wolrd Vision gave her speech as well. A short interesting video presentation from World Vision was presented. It really opened up our eyes as to how lucky and blessed we are and it also showed us ways on how we can help the children that are in need of help in the world.

There were many entertaining performances that were lined up for us. It started off with a few cultural dances such as ‘Tarian Zapin’, a Chinese fan dance, a bhangra dance and so on. Then, a few other Interactors came on stage to entertain us with their wonderful singing. Shirts and badges were given out during the lucky draw.

The IU ended with a special guest performance by Caprice and Nikki Irfan. The Leos had a lot of fun that day and we hope that the money that the Interactors have raised would be enough to help the children all around the world to ensure that they get the education that they need. Before leaving the auditorium, there was a group photo session.

A report on SMK Subang Jaya's IR Day

On the 25th of June 2011, SMK Subang Jaya held a very energetic International Relationship Day themed Hollywood in their school hall which involved Leos from many different schools and even several Interactors. The event kicked off at 3.30pm with an amazing performance by their very own students who battled it out as Californian girls and New-Yorkers which then continued with the 'celebrities' walking the red carpet. It then followed with a speech by their Leo club president and the organizing chairperson of the event. Each school then belted out their roll call and soon after, SMK La Salle performed with much enthusiasm as the crowd went wild. The emcees then announced that there would be a bit of a game to get everyone a little more relaxed with one another. When registering, each person was given a sticker with the name of a celebrity on it. The game was to form a group of 8 with all the celebrities in it and to get on stage first. The crowd had fun running around asking each group if they needed an Elvis or Beyonce. The were two more singing performances before the interval where they served the students some drinks and light food. Students got a chance to mingle and meet new people and some old friends.

After the interval and everyone had replenished their energy, Lion Nicholas had prepared a short speech and soon after there were many more performances that awaited the crowd. A young Leo from Sri KL belted out a couple of songs which got the crowd cheering and then they decided to play another game. 3 boys and 3 girls were randomly picked from the crowd and the challenge was that the girls would have to create a Lady Gaga look for their guy models and the guys would have to strut their stuff on the red carpet. 3 lucky winners from the lucky draw had also won photo frames at this time. Games aside, two bands then came out to really release the inner rockers of the audience. Many people had run up in front of the stage and were jumping up and down with their hands in the air especially when local talent, Once Upon A Time There Was A Sausage Named Bob came on. There were even beatboxers after that! The whole event ended at 7.00pm with an amazing dance performance by the Leos. It was a fantastic day and Leos are sure looking forward to what SMK Subang Jaya can put up next year!
