A Report on Reading To The Blind

On the 10th of March, the Leo Club of Assunta organized a project known as Reading to the Blind. It was located at the University Malaya library. We left the school at about 8a.m. and reached at 8.30a.m. We were so excited that we could help the blind to overcome their difficulties. One of the Leos asked one of the blind students what can they help her with and she asked them to read her a story. She used a recorder to record the story as we read it out so that she could listen to it again when she is free. After we finished reading to her, we still had a lot of time left. So we decided to ask her some questions. things like how did she cope in her studies and how did she managed to finish her assignments. We were surprised that she used a special machine called the “typer” to sit for her exam. She feels the words at her finger tips. She said she used to go to a special school and there were a few teachers who stayed there to train them on how to use the “typer” and read Braille so now she is used to it. Furthermore, the electronic gadgets that she used like a phone and a laptop were very special too. We could see that she was so strong to face all her problems by herself. At around 11a.m, we took a group picture and went home happily.
